Dishonoring Christ In The Christmas Season

A Dallas area church is lying to its parishioners, and destroying the trust the Christian church needs to tend a flock.

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Luke 2:10-11 (KJV)

In the last few years several close friends have left the Methodist Church. A once great establishment of American society, it has now become the latest institution corrupted by regressive leftism. In the interest of full disclosure, I have never been, am not, and don’t plan to convert from being a Christian to a Methodist. ☺ I’m a semi-practicing Catholic, somewhat estranged from the Church because of its recent leftist tendencies (another column for another day).

Back to the Methodist Church, it seems more concerned with elections and political issues than the salvation of man. It even issued a set of Social Principles with a Political Commentary, including:

We affirm that every form of government stands under God’s judgment and must therefore be held accountable for protecting the innocent, guaranteeing basic freedoms and liberties, protecting the natural world, and establishing just, equitable and sustainable economies…

We reject governmental use of threats, extortion, unlawful detentions, extrajudicial killings and other forms of coercion to silence political opponents and those objecting to unlawful or immoral government policies and practices. In keeping with international laws and ordinances, we vehemently protest the use of torture, slavery, genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and crimes of aggression by any government and call for the strictest international sanctions to be imposed in such cases.

I wonder what these “faith leaders” think of abortion on demand or mutilation of children in the name of “gender reassignment?” Or where these people were when the O’Biden regime was targeting Catholics as “radical extremists” and persecuting parents for questioning school boards? Or trying to put grandmothers in jail for trespassing at the capital, all the while letting felons who burned cities down walk.

While other sections of The Social Principles profess broad aspirations, “The Political Community” stands out because it stands up for specific rights:

The right to life, liberty, security, equal treatment before the law and freedom from unlawful detention…

…Current political attitudes fueled by the pseudo-religious political philosophy experts call white Christian nationalism also transgress United Methodist beliefs, which state:

“White Christian nationalism also transgresses United Methodist beliefs.”

We condemn all attempts to deny individuals their basic rights or freedoms or to strip human beings of their inherent dignity and worth. We, therefore, reject within the church and wider society any act of discrimination, hatred or violence directed against individuals or groups based on national origin, tribal affiliation, ethnicity, age, gender identity, disability status, economic condition, sexual orientation, religious affiliation or other any factors.

Translating this into English, the Methodist Church is embracing leftist dogma in many areas, especially LGBTQABCDEFG “rights” and illegal immigration. To be more specific, they do not want immigration, which is an ordered process. They want an open border with anyone who wants to come in, comes in, with no control over who enters the nation. Seems like the United Methodist Church has embraced the DNC’s platform and doctrine. Latest example.

This week we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, one of the holiest days in Christianity. This is supposed to be about the Son of God, not the foibles of man, but the salvation of mankind. Not for this church in Dallas TX.

‘ICE was here.’

Dallas church sends immigration message with Christmas nativity
Oak Lawn United Methodist Church has left the altar empty — with Mary and Joseph in a barbed-wire-lined cage on the steps outside.

DALLAS — The sign on the altar leaves no ambiguity: “ICE was here,” it reads.

Mary, Joseph and Jesus are missing from the nativity at the front of the sanctuary at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church — the figures of the Holy Family in a barbed-wire-lined cage on the steps outside complete the church’s statement on increased immigration enforcement.

“Is it political? Probably,” said Associate Pastor Isabel Marquez. “But this is the time and space that we are in right now.”

She said the idea is to use the nativity scene that’s so familiar to millions to draw parallels to immigration enforcement.

“People are trying to seek help for assistance and for refuge, and the inn is saying no. It’s closing the doors,” she said. “This Holy Family is telling us that we are receiving that knock on our doors too…”

…”That’s a sacred resistance for us, so that’s why we’re doing that,” Marquez said.

Ms. Marquez, you know Joseph and Mary were not illegal aliens, nor were they immigrants. They were subjects of the Roman Empire, ordered by Emperor Caesar Augustus to Bethlehem for a census. If your memory needs refreshing:

…Censuses were a regular administrative task, crucial for understanding the demographics and ensuring efficient taxation and assessing the strength of potential conscripts for the formidable Roman legions…

…Emperor Caesar Augustus, during his reign, issued a decree that resonated across the length and breadth of the Roman Empire.

This proclamation mandated that everyone should be registered in their ancestral town.

This wasn’t a mere bureaucratic exercise but an assertion of Roman authority and organization.

For Joseph, the decree translated into a non-negotiable journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, his family’s town of origin.

Again, Joseph and Mary, subjects of the Roman Empire, ordered by the monarch to temporarily stay at Joseph’s home of origin for a census and taxation action. They were not immigrating or invading another sovereign nation. Joseph and Mary did not expect to be housed and provided for, they attempted to get shelter without success. After Mary’s giving birth and Joseph handing his legal matter, the couple and new child…went home. To be exact, they traveled to Egypt then to Nazareth. They did not get 4-star hotel rooms with food, medicine and other issues provided at taxpayer expense.

Again, I’m not the most devout Christian, but I do recall a quote, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s” (Mark 12:17). Mary and Joseph were giving upon Caesar his due, and in time would give unto God His due. Ms. Marquez, I would suggest you spend your limited time (and the limited attention span of your parishioners) focusing onto things that are God’s. Encouraging law breaking on a mass scale is not in any book of the Bible I know of. Perhaps you could encourage your congregation to obey the laws of God, and if they don’t support the laws of man, use our system to change them.

Merry Christmas all.
