When I first started teaching, I had an hour drive each way to work. Every single morning, Quinn and Rose were on the radio. That was MY morning routine. Coffee, highway, and Jim Quinn telling me exactly why the world was going insane… and somehow making me laugh about it at 6:30 AM.
For years, that man rode shotgun with me on I-77. Five days a week. Never met him. Never called in. But I felt like I knew the guy. You know how that is with certain voices on the radio… they just become part of your life without you realizing it.
Jim had this gift. He could take some 400-page government monstrosity of a bill and distill the entire disaster down to a single sentence that made you spit your coffee on the steering wheel. He called them his “Laws of Liberalism,” and once you heard them… that was it. You were ruined. You could not watch the news without one of Quinn’s laws popping into your head like an uninvited guest who happens to be right about everything.
I miss that man. I really do.
So I went digging. Searched through old forums, archives, fan sites… the internet equivalent of going through boxes in the attic looking for something you KNOW you kept somewhere. I wanted to compile every single law he ever laid down on that show. I THINK I got them all, and I think I got the wording pretty close. If I missed one or got the phrasing slightly off, someone who listened longer than me can correct me in the replies… I will happily update it. Quinn deserves accuracy. The man was precise.
Here they are. All 28 of them. And not a SINGLE one has aged poorly. If anything… they have aged like a prophecy written by a man who just refused to lie to himself.
LAW 1: Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent.
The First Law. The big one. The foundation that holds up all the others. Affordable Care Act? Made care LESS affordable. War on poverty? MORE poverty. War on drugs? More drugs. Every single “fix” breaks two more things and then they act shocked. Quinn saw the pattern before most of us could spell “unintended consequences.”
LAW 2: If you want to know what liberals are up to, pay attention to what they accuse conservatives of doing.
Projection. Every. Single. Time. They scream “fascism” while weaponizing federal agencies. They cry “election interference” while… well, we all saw 2020. They howl about “misinformation” while their media runs stories that fall apart within 48 hours. Every accusation from the left is basically a confession with extra steps.
LAW 3: The amount of wealth in any given area is inversely proportional to the number of Democrats running it.
Detroit. Baltimore. Chicago. San Francisco. St. Louis. Pick one. ANY one. Show me the prosperity after 40-plus years of uninterrupted Democrat leadership. I will wait… actually, no I won’t. I have class in the morning and this could take longer than my entire career.
LAW 4: Liberalism only succeeds when the public is scared into believing it will not survive without it.
COVID. That is the whole argument right there. Scare people badly enough and they will hand over their rights, shutter their businesses, mask their toddlers, and thank you for the privilege. Fear is not a byproduct of liberal governance… it is the FUEL.
LAW 5: When liberalism conflicts with reality, reality must give way.
Economics says printing money causes inflation. Biology says… well, we are not allowed to say what biology says anymore, apparently. History says socialism has a 100% failure rate. None of it matters. The ideology has spoken. Reality can take a number.
LAW 6: Facts are the enemy of liberalism.
This is why they do not debate. They deplatform. They label. They censor. Because if they had to actually DEFEND their positions with data and logic and historical evidence… the whole thing unravels in about four minutes flat. Maybe three.
LAW 7: It is different when you are a Democrat; things conservatives are condemned for are merely resume enhancements for liberal Democrats.
Republican says something awkward at dinner? National crisis for three weeks. Democrat governor covers up nursing home deaths? Here is an Emmy and a book deal. The double standard is not even subtle anymore… it IS the operating system.
LAW 8: A liberal is any person for whom two thousand years of human experience and history mean nothing now that they are here.
Every failed policy has already been tried. Every utopian experiment has already starved its people. Every socialist paradise ended in bread lines or bullets. But THIS time… oh, THIS time it will work. Because THEY are in charge now. The confidence of someone who has never cracked a history book is… honestly almost impressive.
LAW 9: To liberals, intentions are more significant than the outcomes they achieve.
Does not matter that the policy destroyed an industry and trapped a generation in poverty. They MEANT well. And if you dare point out the body count? YOU are the monster. How dare you judge a program by its… results. The audacity.
LAW 10: Liberals never think what they are doing is wrong; they only think they have not done enough of it yet.
Minimum wage killed entry-level jobs? Did not raise it HIGH enough. Welfare destroyed families? Did not SPEND enough. Regulations crushed small business? Did not REGULATE enough. It is like a doctor who keeps upping the dose of the medicine that is killing the patient. “Just give it time… and more money… and another agency…”
LAW 11: Profiling is what groups call bigotry when they have a problem they do not want to talk about.
Uncomfortable data reveals uncomfortable patterns. Addressing root causes takes honesty. Honesty means admitting things that do not fit the narrative. So… we just call the CONVERSATION itself bigotry and pretend that solved something.
LAW 12: Liberals do not engage in debate; they try to silence you. If they engaged in debate, they would lose.
Safe spaces. Speech codes. “Misinformation” labels. Deplatforming. The entire apparatus exists for one reason… they CANNOT win the argument on merit. So they make sure the argument never happens. Quinn called this out 20 years before “cancel culture” even had a name.
LAW 13: Liberals (Democrats) are political opportunists; they can never let a good crisis go to waste.
Rahm Emanuel gets the credit for saying it out loud, but Quinn was there first. Every crisis… real, exaggerated, or manufactured from scratch… is just runway to expand government, strip rights, and consolidate power. COVID was the masterclass.
LAW 14: Liberalism is based on unproved and/or disproved theory.
Keynesian multipliers that never actually multiply. Minimum wage hikes that “don’t cause unemployment”… except every serious study says they do. Rent control that “doesn’t reduce supply”… except everywhere it has been tried. The entire framework rests on theories that a century of data has demolished. But see Law 5… reality must yield.
LAW 15: To a liberal, every culture is unquestionable and of equal value, except the West’s.
Celebrate every cultural tradition on earth EXCEPT the one that produced constitutional governance, individual liberty, the scientific method, and the highest living standard in human history. THAT one? Irredeemably problematic and must be torn down. Obviously.
LAW 16: Liberals view the world the way they think it should be, not the way it is.
You cannot govern a fantasy. You have to govern reality. But reality is messy and complicated and does not fit on a protest sign… so they govern the fantasy version and act bewildered when nothing works. Every. Single. Time.
LAW 17: Being a liberal is the art of standing on one’s own head and telling the rest of the world that they are upside down.
I have used this one with my students. They love it. Mainly because they see it play out on social media in real time every day… and they are 16.
LAW 18: A liberal is someone who has replaced reality with their ideology.
When the ideology says one thing and the evidence says another… a conservative adjusts the theory. A liberal? Adjusts the evidence. Or ignores it. Or calls it racist. Whatever gets the job done.
LAW 19: To a liberal, the definition of a great thinker is someone who can journey as far as possible from reality and make it look like they used some kind of sound logic to get there.
Go read any social science journal. Pick one. Forty pages of statistical gymnastics and sophisticated jargon to arrive at a conclusion any blue-collar worker could debunk over lunch. But they have PhDs so… they must be smarter than the electrician who actually keeps the lights on, right?
LAW 20: Liberals suffer from intellectual inbreeding and become extremist because of having to think only in the proverbial liberal box and not being able to stray from liberal dogma.
Purge every dissenting voice from your institutions. Remove every conservative professor, every skeptical journalist, every contrarian thinker. Then act SHOCKED when your positions become more extreme every year. The echo chamber is not a bug… it is the entire architecture. And then they genuinely wonder why they cannot understand half the country.
LAW 21: Hate speech is any speech a liberal does not agree with.
The definition changes weekly. Sometimes daily. Yesterday’s progressive position becomes today’s hate speech if the Overton window moves left fast enough. Try to keep up or get cancelled… your choice.
LAW 22: Liberals love democracy unless it does not go their way.
Brexit? Illegitimate. Trump 2016? Russian interference. Any ballot measure they lose? Voters were “deceived.” Democracy is sacred… right up until the voters disagree. Then suddenly we need EXPERTS making decisions and the common people just cannot be trusted. Funny how that works.
LAW 23: Liberals love the law unless they do not agree with it. Then they just do not obey it.
Sanctuary cities. State officials refusing federal cooperation. Judges escorting defendants through back doors. Brad Lander physically blocking ICE operations. They lecture US about the “rule of law” while literally sprinting away from it… on camera… in broad daylight.
LAW 24: Every time a liberal tries to fix something, someone somewhere loses their job.
Raise the minimum wage… teenager loses their first job. New regulation… small business closes. Mandate benefits… company moves states. Or countries. Every “fix” has a body count. They just never bother to count the bodies.
LAW 25: Liberals are great at giving away other people’s money.
This one gets under my skin every time. EVERY time. A politician at a podium demanding “investment” in some program. Investment. With YOUR money. That THEY did not earn. For programs THEY will never use. Benefiting constituents who will vote for THEM. What a racket. What an absolute racket.
LAW 26: Liberals like the courts unless the decision does not go their way.
Roe overturned? PACK THE COURT. Chevron overturned? ILLEGITIMATE. Any ruling limiting government overreach? ACTIVIST JUDGES. But when the court rules THEIR way… it is sacred settled law, how DARE you question the judiciary. Pick a lane… and stay in it for once.
LAW 27: Liberals have never seen a tax or tax hike they did not like.
Name one they opposed. I will wait. I have taught science for years and I understand that certain phenomena are theoretically possible but have never been observed in nature… like cold fusion, perpetual motion machines, and a Democrat opposing a tax increase.
LAW 28: Liberals only see capitulation or an apology as “blood in the water.”
Never. Apologize. To the mob. Quinn knew this before Twitter was a glimmer in Jack Dorsey’s eye. The SECOND you concede an inch, they come for the mile. Your apology is not accepted… it is WEAPONIZED. It becomes proof you were guilty all along. And now they want more. There is no amount of groveling that satisfies the beast, so stop feeding it.

That is all 28. Again… I did my best digging these up. If I missed one, butchered the wording on one, or if there is a secret 29th law hiding somewhere in the archives, drop it in the replies. I want this to be right. The man earned that much.
I am not going to pretend Jim Quinn was some philosopher king on a mountaintop. He was a radio guy in Pittsburgh who happened to see the world with terrifying clarity while the rest of media fumbled around in the dark chasing whatever narrative was trending. He said things plainly. He said them funny. And he had the absolute audacity to be right about nearly everything while doing it.
I think about him more than I probably should. Not in some deep, philosophical way… more like I will be reading a politician’s statement that is SO disconnected from reality it HAS to be performance art, and I will hear Quinn’s voice in my head going “Law Number One, kid. Law Number One.” Like he is grading their homework from wherever he is.
That morning commute was worth every mile and every dollar in gas. Quinn made me a sharper thinker, a better teacher, and an absolute nightmare to debate at family gatherings. I consider that a win on all fronts.
Rest easy, Jim. Your laws are still undefeated… and at this rate, they never will be.
But what do I know? I am only a science teacher who spent years learning from one of the sharpest minds in talk radio before the rest of the country was even awake… while the world around me keeps proving every single one of his laws correct.
