Travel-Trailer-Train

Automobile-pulled travel-trailers have been around almost as long as passenger trains. But locomotive rail travel is nearly extinct due to excessive government regulations, freight traffic conflicts and costs. Time might be right for creating Travel-Trailer-Trains  – coupling together multiple travel-type trailers that have been made into full trailers (wheels at each end).

This “train” of travel-trailers would be pulled by a motor vehicle (semi-truck) on interstate highways. Utilizing modern technologies, construction methods and specially licensed drivers, this could be the future of vacationing. Think Pullman during the heyday of extravagant travel: passengers on the Travel-Trailer-Train could move from sleeper/coach to dining car to observation car. All trips would become relaxed, scenery-viewing voyages; far better than cramped sit-in-one-place SUVs or elbow to elbow airliner treks.

Most states have laws forbidding passengers in towed vehicles…but those laws are 50+ years old. The reasoning had to do with the danger of pulling a trailer with only one axle set (a semi-trailer), e.g., passengers moving around cause a balance shift plus inadequacies of inertia-activated mechanical braking. One forward-thinking state could be the impetus to modernize laws that will allow luxury Travel-Trailer-Trains. Booze, concealed firearms, double-bottom tractor-trailers were once illegal…but times change.
