The harpies at NBC10 (WBTS) in Boston have the name, rank and serial number of the juror who believed Lindsay Clancy when she said she killed her children. The outlet is owned and operated by NBC. Station personnel have no legal right to know his name and in fact, may have violated the law in obtaining the name.
Nevertheless, NBC10 is airing a string of stories about his divorce and his financial woes in an effort to discredit him.
The station is going after the juror because his refusal to go-along-to-get-along and acquit her is unpopular among the liberals who dominate the area. The station’s management is using the juror to attract viewers and advertisers to the station’s broadcasts.
NBC10 is usually last in the ratings among the five English-language local newsrooms behind WCVB (ABC), WHDH (independent), WBZ (CBS) and WFXT (Fox) in that order—and has been fifth in this five-channel race since 2017.
Oh, I am sure the reporters going after the man believe they are heroes in their crusade to expose a private citizen who did his duty and served on a jury. Wait, since 9/11, journalists no longer call themselves crusading journalists. They say investigative reporters instead.
Besides, exposing the hero’s record just may be the ticket out of Beantown to network stardom.
But the station is undermining the integrity of the judiciary. Far from being helpful, in Boston, NBC10’s freedom of the press is doing serious damage to our country
NBC10 should not know the juror’s name because the judge impounded the list of the names of jurors. His fellow jurors likely ratted him out. The station justifies its use of his name and its unethical attacks on his reputation by saying, well, at least we’re not disclosing his name.
But we are hearing only one side of the story.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said, “A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected. Another low for legacy media.
“If the juror is being harassed, Florida will provide asylum—I’m sure he’d be welcomed and appreciated.”
Don’t blame these crusading reporters for this mess because they are mere employees. Station management sees this story as a godsend to ratings. The movie Network lampooned this a half-century ago. Nothing has changed in journalistic standards in 50 years.
But the market has.
An overwhelming majority of the 2.5 million people in the Boston area don’t watch it. Nielsen reported two years ago that its 11 PM news averaged 10,892 households a night.
Only 147,667 households in the Boston area watch the 11 PM news.
I cannot get numbers for the 6 O’Clock News. Sorry.
Much has been written about the demise of newspapers—good riddance—but TV news suffers as well. ABC, CBS and NBC drew roughly 25 million viewers each night for their 6:30 PM news.
Today it is below 20 million, a 20% drop.
The population grew 21%.
There are many reasons for this, not the least of which is people no longer gather for dinner and watch the news. But if TV news managers believer they won’t go the way of newspapers, they are in for a surprise.
Total newspaper circulation in the USA in 2000 was 55.8 million daily and 59.4 million on Sunday.
In 2022 (latest figure I could find) it was 20.9 million—including online subscribers.
USA Today had 1,777,488 print subscribers in 2000.
The top 50 newspapers in America now total 2 million print subscribers.
There are many reasons for this, including the break up of the family as the foundation of society. But crusading journalists and telling only half the story have corroded credibility to the point where people ignore the news.
Consider AOC. She got away with saying there were 10 lynchings of black people this year. The media repeated her without context. X did not. It added a community note to her tweet.
Amy Curtis then tweeted, “As the Community Notes show, most of the hangings were ruled suicides. One was a murder, but the suspect in Mississippi is a black man.
“Narrative busted. But they’re persisting. Why?
“But the facts of the cases don’t support this. So WHY?
“Then I see what they’re doing to the lone holdout juror in MA. And the dots start connecting and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the moment the Left decided to wage war on the right to trial by an impartial jury of one’s peers, Democrats demand lynching investigations.”
In the last 10 years, newspaper employment has dropped from 150,000 to 78,000. This includes printers, office staff, journalists and ad salesmen. My heart goes out to the people in three of those four categories.
We keep hearing about the necessity of a free press to keep the government in check, but all I see are newspaper lies about Trump and a refusal to believe that Somalis bilked the government in Minnesota.
Now this.
If I were stuck owning a newspaper, I would report the truth that we must stand behind the lone juror who stood up for his beliefs. That’s the American way.
Harassing a juror is the way of some other country that I do not want to live in.
More and more Americans do not want to live there either.
Finally, I understood Items 20 and 21 in “Highlights of the Week” on Saturday, but no one else did because I didn’t explain them well—which is sort of my job, right?
So I changed them to something understandable.
ITEM 20: Mike Konczal asked, “Why Are Women Over 100% of the Jobs Gained Under Trump’s Second Term?”
Over 100%? Turns out Barbie wasn’t the only one who discovered math class is tough.
ITEM 21: The Center for Immigration Studies tweeted, “Since January 2025 when President Trump took office, data shows an unprecedented 2.9 MILLION DECLINE in the foreign-born population—naturalized citizens, lawful permanent residents, long-term temporary visitors, and illegal immigrants.”
Won’t see you in September. Bye-bye, so long, farewell.
