A Letter to President Trump

I assume you will run in 2024 for the Presidency.

I am writing to offer suggestions based on my observations of friends, associates, acquaintances, and other persons, reading of various sites, books, etc., about their opinions and views of you.

Your base will vote for you.

The problem is with the Republicans, independents, registered Democrats who do not like Biden, and suburban voters who did not vote for you in 2020. Their major complaint seems to be that they do not like your “obnoxious” behavior such as attacking and insulting Republicans who disagree with you. Most of these people support your policies such as building the wall, lower tax rates, energy production, tariffs on China, and a strong military. But they are blinded by your unnecessary insults and then they vote on personality instead of policies.

For example, during your recent May rally in Greensburg, Pa to endorse Mehmet Oz you attacked Senator Pat Toomey, who voted to impeach you the second impeachment, and senatorial candidate Dave McCormick. I am not defending Toomey, but there is no reason to attack him. He is retiring but he still has many supporters and won two elections for senator. You do not gain any votes by attacking Toomey and probably lose some.

There was no reason to attack McCormick. He is a popular decorated veteran who may win the primary. If he loses you have lost his vote, his family and friends’ votes, and the votes of many of his supporters.

I am not a fan of Governor Chris Christie, Mitt Romney, and their ilk, but again there is no point in attacking them. Your base is already with you and shares your opinion about them, but even Christie, Romney, etc. have their followers. Attacking them is a distraction when the real opponent is Biden, Harris, and Pelosi.

More importantly, the focus should be on Biden and his crew who are destroying our country. They are in charge and causing the damage, not the Republicans you like to bait and attack. It is a waste of time focusing on the likes of Christie, Romney, and others.

We understand your feelings about the likes of turncoats like Lynn Cheney, especially after you pardoned her father’s pal, Scooter Libby after George W Bush refused to pardon Libby. But it is a waste of time to focus on political pygmies like Cheney, Romney, Toomey, etc. when you have targets like Joey Biden, Kamala Harris, and Nancy Pelosi to attack.

Your Attorney General, William P. Barr, who did a good job as Attorney General, complained about your behavior even though he supports your policies and the results of your policies, and opined that you should not run because of your behavior. We can disagree with Barr, but there is no point in attacking him for his opinion because there are others who share his opinion, and they could be convinced to vote for you.

You already have the base that shares your opinion of the Cheney, Romney, Toomey, etc. Republicans so there is no need to attack them. But you will lose votes by attacking them so what is the point?

The point is to win in 2022 and 2024 to save our country from the Biden disaster.

We need every vote.

  1. Why did Donald Trump win the 2016 election? Because he let himself be himself! He caught on with millions of conservatives who had previously voted for ‘establishment’ Republicans because the establishment Republicans were all who were available.

You are asking Mr Trump to not be himself.

    • I agree that in 2016 Trump solidified the base that was fed up with the Romney, McCain era. It was enough to win in 2016 in a close election against Crooked Hillary.
But now we have to add to the base to win again, especially because of mail in voting that favors the Dems.
It is just a matter of tactics.

  2. I think the reason that Trump goes on the attack, against many in his party is because he really wants to make the change in the Party, from being a bunch of the usual dribble into the party that actually gets stuff done. He knows who is standing in the way. Your reasoning about why a lot of folks did not vote for him, works for 2016, but I decided that I liked the results better than being put off by some of his comments, so I voted for him in 2020, without the first thought about the comments.

It may just be me, but I think people need to get past this sensitivity about his style, and understand that results are what counts. All Trump would be doing, if he adopted the kinder, gentler tone, would be to become one of them. Trump took what Reagan started, and just put his style with it.
I look at those who fought in the American Revolution to those who wanted to just put up and concede to the King’s mandates. Who won that fight? Those who stood their ground.

    • Most of us here are part of his base and accept his personality. But there are enough who are put off.
For example, in my district, our Republican party in SW Pa has turned out the vote for Trump in 2016 and 2020. But now our local party is split between Oz and McCormick, and between Matrioano and Barletta, and loyal Trump voters are uspet he attacked McCormick, a decorated war veteran who served in the 82d Airborne.
Trump could have endorsed Oz without attacking McCormick

      • I agree. He has made some bad calculations. My statements were made considering the whole of his remarks. I look at some of his idiotic statements about the same as when I realized I put my foot in my own mouth. It happens to all of us.
Pennsylvania could have used a better Trump endorsement, than for Oz. Either of the remaining two would have left out a little controversy. However, the real controversy seems to be the feud between McCormick and Oz, themselves.

        • Oz and McCormick have spent close to 15-20 million each.
I get texts and emails all day from both.
In the beginning, Carla Sands spent a ton attacking Oz that the company Asplunduh, that cuts down trees hired illegals. Big news when we have an open border. The company was started by Oz’s wife’s grandparents, and Oz does not participate in running the company. Sands has faded.
Then McCormick brought up that Oz is also a citizen of Turkey and served in the Turkish army while he, McCormick, served in the 82nd.
On the Dem side, we have John Fetterman, a trust fund commie, in the lead.
He suffered a mild stroke on Friday and is in hospital.
He is a slick campaigner and will be a formidable candidate to beat if he wins the primary. His opponent is Connor Lamb, who has won two tough local congressional elections, beating Sean Parnell, another decorated vet, in 2020.
The Republicans are destroying each other, giving fodder for the general election to the Dems.
