Of What Are We Actually Afraid?

“We have nothing to fear but fear itself.” – President Franklin Roosevelt, 1933 Inaugural Address

“O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave o’er the land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?” – From the American National Anthem by Francis Scott Key

Greetings my fellow Americans!

Democrat politicians, enabled by weak Republicans, have become very adept at using fear to control the American public. Our governments have been telling us for three years now that we are in the midst of an ongoing pandemic, induced by the spread of a coronavirus identified as COVID-19, along with its various and sundry mutations.  At the declared onset of this back in March of 2020, we were presented with dire predictions of millions of deaths directly caused by this particular contagion, and told that we must separate ourselves from each other, and that our access to certain places and things was to be denied or greatly restricted until a suitable vaccine could be developed to “stop the spread.”  We were told that this was a “novel” virus, i.e., unlike anything theretofore encountered in the history of medical science, yet how best to mitigate its devastating effects was clear to those imposing said restrictions, as the science on this was “settled.”  The fear of death to ourselves, and/or causing the deaths of others by being a carrier of this pathogen, became an omnipresent motivator for compliance and capitulation.

Since that initial wave of global fear and panic, we’ve had varying waves and degrees of remediation, relaxation and skepticism over just how real a threat this particular sickness is to our global community:  remediation via early therapeutic treatments which have been outright rejected by the majority of the public and private health “experts” in favor of rapidly released “vaccines”, relaxation and reinstitution of government mandates, and skepticism over government’s ability to profess the best courses of action to mitigate the effects of these viruses, as well as government’s legal authority to restrict social behavior in the name of public safety during such times declared by government as particularly hazardous.

Some continue to believe that the “experts” have been making the right calls on this from the start, if for no other reason than so much is still unknown about this novel disease that they should continue to be given all benefit of the doubt for the sake of “keeping us safe.”  There are others who have been skeptical at or near the start of the motives of those purveying the doom and gloom of this pandemic, and seemingly all too eager to revoke the freedom and autonomy of others, in the guise of “public safety.”  Then there is the seeming mass majority of those in between who seem content to do whatever the majority seems willing to do, regardless of why, and to not make waves or stand out, nor to put their livelihoods at risk by defying orders from their employers or governments.  There are also the many companies and corporations who are effectively granted permission by governments to operate, and rely heavily on public relations and teams of lawyers to maintain good standing with government, the media, and the general public.

Fear undoubtedly has played a huge role in how people have been behaving during this pandemic, and how it is doing so is very much an indictment of the anti-American vulnerabilities which had already evolved and matured in our society beforehand, and were quite exploitable by anyone with the power and intent to dismantle it.

Our local, state and national networks of “health and human services” had become proverbial catbird seats for anyone seeking such societal oversight and control, by utilizing the universal fear of death as their catalyst.  The National Institute of Health (NIH) National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), all under the auspices of the national Department of Health and Human Services, had amassed a wealth of unelected power and bureaucratic control over decades, with satellite offices in virtually every state and local municipality.  They were quickly able to instill fear of the virus at the individual level, and have continued to use propaganda and inexact science and data to promulgate that fear in sufficient numbers over the past 20+ months.  At the community and corporate levels, they’ve been able to manipulate schools and school boards, as well as private companies, with threats of license revocation and/or fines, both directly and via the Occupational Safety and Health Administration offices set up virtually in parallel with the HHS at all levels of government.

Threats of lawsuits stemming from deaths claimed to be caused by contraction of COVID-19 from fellow employees have also undoubtedly loomed large in the policies of companies around the globe.  Our heavily litigious pre-COVID society was already fertile ground for the corporate lawyers to dictate social distancing and vaccination policies for those who stood to lose much more in lawsuits were they to ignore the “guidelines” being put forth by the government.

So, what is the point?  Fear has proven to be a very powerful motivator throughout human history, and is quite prevalent in our currently declared health pandemic.  However, individual fear of direct infection by the virus is likely a very small percentage of what is now driving our culture away from the liberty and freedom we have enjoyed as Americans for so long.  So much more now appears to be attributable to threats from agencies of the government to disrupt the operations of companies who choose not to comply with their guidelines, and, by virtue of this disruption at the corporate level, threaten the livelihoods of millions of people who would otherwise choose not to be vaccinated and otherwise mask and/or social distance yet lack the wherewithal to resist.  Though always found to be in the minority, here’s to hoping and praying that we still have enough Americans willing to actively do just that
