Insurrection: I do not think you know what that word means.

Insurrection.

I do not think you know what that word means.

Princess Bride

There are many reports on the recent riots in Brazil, and for the sake of argument let’s call it an insurrection. It was an organized and armed assault against an organized government with the intent of seizing its powers. J6 by this definition was not an insurrection. If it were an insurrection, it was probably the most poorly organized insurrection in the history of insurrections. The insurrectionists had no leadership, no weapons, and no common goal to overthrow the duly elected government of the United States. But they did come to protest an election that raised obvious questions. And only J6 protestors were killed. Trump had rallies for over four years and nothing ever happened. Why was J6 different? Why did a portion of J6 go off the rails?

Pelosi convened the Select Committee on January 6, July 1. Democrat led (7D), she refused to seat the recommended Republican members and instead appointed “Dizzy-Lizzy” Cheney and “Crying time again” Kinzinger in violation of H.Res 503, Sec 2. If, as the news article surmises, the panel subpoenaed “hundreds of individuals…and a mountain of phone records, documents, and texts,” why have they not been released? Why has the Committee through inaction, and/or apparent inability, provided the public useful information? If I had the same information as that Committee and failed to produce anything of substance, my boss would have deservedly run me out of town on a rail, tar and feathers trailing.

The article accused Trump supporters “(of helping) spread lies and disinformation.” But exactly what lies and disinformation did they spread? After all, a person’s “opinion” of what occurred is as valid as any other opinion. There is no doubt that individuals caused damage to the Capitol building and various offices, and those people should be prosecuted. However, some people appeared to simply be wandering through the Capitol seemingly oblivious to other events. Much film shows people, rather than engaged in a blood-thirsty rampage, what appears to be akin to a Saturday afternoon stroll through a mall.

The article goes on to state that “Trump surrogates” call for the release of J6 “political prisoners.” Those inmates, call them what you will, have been in jail now some 2 years “awaiting trial” in a facility that a Federal Marshals’ inspection found “do(es) not meet minimum standards of confinement” (U.S. Marshall’s Service, 11/2/21). Is this an egregious violation of Amendment VI legal protections? Axios.com (10/13/21) reported that prisoners have very limited attorney-client privileges and medical access. In that article, a federal judge recommended the Justice Department investigate the DC Gulag for civil rights abuses. Biden’s DOJ? Well certainly there are not two levels of justice in the United States so they must simply be putting together the appropriate response force. But geez, they broke into Melania’s closet a lot quicker.

The article then goes on to reference Politifact which says the effort to “rewrite January 6 history” is “…the lie of the year in 2021.” However, perhaps a better source for opinion is the Pew Research Center survey (1/4/2022) which you may want to read.

So what are people hiding? What can’t Americans be told? I’m having flashbacks to the Warren Commission. So maybe the mafia was involved?
