The Superbowl is one of our few remaining all-American experiences. Neither traditional holidays, which mean decidedly different things to Americans deeply divided by the Great U.S. Culture War, nor any other public event pulls together so many Americans. What will it take to re-unite these United States of America?
Annually, the Superbowl is the single most collective experience shared by the largest number of Americans. Roughly 100 million of the 330 to 350 million citizens and aliens living in the U.S. watch at the same time. It’s one of the few things that Conservatives, Commies, and the Clueless can share together. Even this penultimate all-American game, more popular than Baseball’s World Series, the Daytona and Indianapolis races, the Kentucky Derby combined, or any other iconic annual event, is tainted with the Wokeness that divides Americans in the Great U.S. Culture War.
No players took a knee during the playing of the National Anthem. Conversely, the Eagles’ coach was overcome by emotion. Whether his tears were personal or patriotic, it’s a far cry from the NFL’s corporate pandering to the Left. Like the pap sung 30 minutes before the game in the long opening ceremonies, the “Black National Anthem.”
Hollywood doesn’t reach every family on TV or in theaters as it once did. Music is heard by tribal genres. DisneyWorld was a unifying experience for 50 years for those who could afford it. But, now, the woke Disney entertainment for indoctrinating children isn’t selling universally.
What will unite us?
Frankly, we’ve never been united since some pissed off, well-armed colonists took up arms against the greatest military power and their legitimate, superior government in 1775. World War II was the most united the United States of America has ever been. Americans faced an existential threat to our survival.
9-11 unity, as I wrote in my first op ed, was very short-lived because “the adrenaline cocktail of shock, fear and anger intoxicates only for a season.”
In 2020, the Wuhan Virus united Americans for about six weeks. Then, the divisions exacerbated by power drunk government officials, duplicitous and duped public health officials, and the fearful, viciously vengeful mobs of mindless lemmings on the Left ripped open the bandage of public health crisis unity.
Consequently, I doubt that Americans will ever really be united as a consensus culture. That’s not our nature. But, a governing, ruling, stasis culture can be one outcome of victory in the Culture War. I trust that we Conservatives will re-conquer or replace the cultural institutions of government – including the armed forces, business, education, media, arts and entertainment (that means you – NFL!), religion, and family.
Unfortunately, only a real, unambiguous external threat to our survival will truly unite us. And, then only for as long as it takes to survive the threat. If we, America, does.
The coming War with China is avoidable, as all human decisions have free will, but is more likely to happen than not because of the failings and folly of all humankind since Adam took a bite out of that apple.
The Communist Chinese will nuke us, biowar us with tailored deadly viruses less harmful to Han DNA, chem us, and EMP us back into the 19th Century.
They’ll do it because they are Human Secularist Totalitarians with no regard for human life they oppose.
They’ll do it because they are Chinese and their culture isn’t the essentially Christian culture of Western Civilization. They don’t have the cultural restraints to back away from Armageddon.
Admittedly, Western Civilization broke its health trying to commit suicide in WW I and engaged in genocide in WW II, but the warring nations didn’t use every weapon in their hands to create a Mongolian Peace. Furthermore, the Russians had suffered too much and re-built so much from the Great Patriotic War to risk nuclear war with the West.
Finally, they’ll do it because their math since Mao has been that they have enough people to survive anything.
I hope the war comes well after the ascendancy of Conservatives to national power, if they can overcome the cheating, so that serious men and women can ready us to survive and win.
If so, my grandchildren can do as I did, and watch the Superbowl with their grandkids and be clueless about the half-time show and many of the commercials

I don’t think China will start a war with us. Why would they? We are doing a great job of destroying our own military, our youth, our culture and our government all by ourselves. Plus, they control more of our politicians than we do.
Why have a war when your enemy will just collapse on itself. It is basically a variation of Reagan’s cold war strategy, only we are on the wrong end this time.
Good point. They would do it when, people being people, someone screws up and then they “can’t” back down. Why did the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor when that was never going to get the US to start selling them iron and raw materials again? Why did the Guns of August in WW I come about like runaway truck on a mountain without brakes? Why did the hot headed South Carlonians fire on Ft Sumter in April when there had been no war after their secession? Etc. Etc.
