When Good Men Do Nothing

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.

-Edmund Burke

I like that quote. It was my auto signature for years. If you have a studied confidence that something is right (notice I did NOT say, “if you believe something to be right”), then you have a moral obligation to act on that.

Let me address the parenthetical. There is a right and wrong. There is a good and evil. Most ethical dilemmas do not fall into the category of black and white; however, the common rhetoric of those who fight for evil would aspire to ensure that we have no confidence in the idea that there is even a true right and wrong.

I could give several examples, but I will suffice with just 2 from recent history:

  1. We are supposed to believe that lawlessness, rioting, destruction, theft, and attempted murder are justified by the George Floyd incident and BLM outrage. No. Absolutely no. None of that was justified, even if George Floyd was murdered. Two wrongs don’t make a right, and all that. But we’re supposed to look the other way and ignore their evil actions because they were angry? There is no anger that justifies what they did.
  1. And most recently: We are supposed to look the other way when Israeli babies were beheaded, IDF soldiers were beheaded, entire families were targeted and killed, and there were actually leaders in charge of who should get raped? We’re supposed to look the other way when even elected Congress-persons call for the extermination of Jews? We’re supposed to accept an actual genocide because of the (im)moral outrage of people that don’t even know that they are calling for genocide?

Just no. And the fact that the United States of F-ing America is infected with that much evil and hate makes me have honest doubts about the future of our Country. It scares me.

Here is one more, already alluded to: the Black Lives Matter organization has declared themselves to be Communists. In their founders words, “trained Marxists.” And they got rich from the grift, like all good Commie leaders, but then at least 2 chapters posted support for the Hamas terrorists in their murder of innocent people, families, babies and unarmed women. And we are still supposed to support BLM? Hell to the F no. This is no surprise, as I have said for the past 3 years. “Trained Marxists.” That’s all we should have needed to know.

But the question remains: If the quote says that the only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing,” then does that mean that doing “something” absolves us of moral culpability for the consequences?

How do we know when we have done ENOUGH to be absolved of the moral consequences.

The answer is simple, I think. We have never done “enough” so long as there is a fight of good and evil. There is no “retirement.” There can be vacations and furloughs. Everyone needs a respite. But evil people are driven by anger, rage, and an unholy passion that they will never let go. And so, good people need to never get complacent and think that they have done enough. Good people never get to pass the baton until the day they die. Because evil people never will.

  1. Bravo, sir, most excellent article. Up until 2020, I was a columnist for my parish newspaper. When the Floyd riots broke out, I called BLM a bunch of thugs bent on destruction and mayhem. Local blacks went crazy and demanded I apologize for my racist words or they’d burn the paper office, my home, etc. The editor called and asked me to write an apology; I said no, so she apologized for me, calling my comments “vile.” The dummkopfs were satisfied, and I didn’t get burned out…not that I would have anyway.

Even here, in the reddest of red areas, telling the truth is penalized. However, I found another venue and have continued to aggravate democrats as much as possible.
I am happy to forward your most marvelous article to my contact list.

    • Thank you for the feedback, Alma. It is always good to hear encouragement from others of a similar mind. And in quest of the real truth. “Thugs” is not a racist term. From what you said, it seems that no apology was necessary.
