The new Religion of Postmodernism and DEI: Fragmenting the Fabric of Traditional American Truth.

Postmodernism, that elusive and enigmatic philosophical maelstrom, has swirled its way into the heart of American traditional culture, leaving behind a trail of skepticism, relativism, and a chaotic blend of high-brow irony. This intellectual blender of ideas has taken the sanctity of traditional values and norms, tossed them into a kaleidoscope of subjectivity, and declared, “Who needs coherence when you have diverse perspectives?”

Gone are the days when consensus and shared truths held sway in the tapestry of American life. Postmodernism, with its incessant questioning of grand narratives and its embrace of cultural relativism, has spawned a landscape of fragmented truths, where everyone’s reality is as valid as the next. “Your truth, my truth, their truth” echoes the chorus, blurring the lines between fact and fiction in a haphazard dance of subjectivity.

Traditional American values, once revered and celebrated, are now subjected to deconstructionist scrutiny. The reverence for authority, linear progress, and the cultural fabric that once bound communities together is now caught in a whirlwind of suspicion. “Who needs a cohesive society when you can revel in the chaos of diversity?” seems to be the postmodernist religious mantra.

The impact of postmodernism on art and culture is no less bewildering. High culture rubs elbows with low culture, irony becomes the preferred mode of expression, and self-referentiality reaches levels that rival an existential game of “Who’s on First?” In this topsy-turvy world, pastiche reigns supreme, and originality gasps for breath amidst the cacophony of borrowed snippets and recycled ideas. Bottom line its plagiarism in art.

As postmodernism continues its intellectual tirade against the traditional pillars of American culture, one wonders if the quest for diversity,  inclusion, equity and subjectivity comes at the cost of a shared reality. The celebration of fragmentation and the skepticism towards established norms leave a cultural landscape akin to a shattered mirror—every shard reflecting a different truth, but none offering a complete picture. So, is postmodernism the harbinger of cultural evolution or merely the jester in the court of traditional American values? The answer, it seems, is as elusive as postmodernism itself. One only need ask themselves, “are we better, or  worse, today after tolerating and accepting this newfound social religion?
