Political Parody As a Weapon Part CXVI; Born Free

Born free (a) As free as the wind blows (b) As free as the grass grows (c) Born free to follow your heart (d) All of the above.

Last week, in Part CXV, we made the journey to a land of boundless imagination, though it took no imagination to characterize the deal some voters made with Joe Biden as a deal with the devil, without the usual escape clauses. This week, we will look at more deals with the devil (and not coincidentally, like one episode of “The Twilight Zone” about said deals and clauses, also involves the kind of behavior that could also lead to one being thrown from a roof, at least in Tehran or Ramallah).

Shortly before the Christmas holiday, there was a brief bit of news coverage about the staff of Senator Ben Cardin of Maryland.

Maryland’s octogenarian senator has been a staunch supporter of Israel throughout most of his political career. As he winds up his third term in the Senate and plans to retire at the end of this year, it is unclear as to whether he has decided to cash in (in a manner not unlike that of Joe Biden and his family as Vice President) or if he has lost control of his staff, which is changing his political positions (in a manner not unlike that of Joe Biden as President).

In mid- December, Representative Max Miller of Ohio (a republican of the Jewish faith) reported how an interview he was giving was interrupted by a shaking congressional staffer shouting “Free Palestine” in a cowardly manner. Congressman Miller subsequently identified the pro-Hamas anti-Semitic interloper as Aidan Maese-Czeropski, though reports reflect that the Cardin staffer denied this activity on his Linked-In page.

Despite this denial, Cardin’s staffer was also identified as participating in and filming acts of sodomy in Senate Conference Rooms, leading to his dismissal and designation as one of the Washington Free Beacon’s Man of the Year awards (and it was confirmed that it was not a typographical error substituting “Year” instead of “Rear”).

Of course, these actions by a member in good standing (and other more accessible positions) of the democratic base accused of going rogue might have faded from memory (even without interpretation suggesting biblical requirements for plucking out the eyes or removal of other body parts), even though the irony lingers regarding the political support for a group whose elected political leadership has typically responded to those in their midst who engaged in the acts recorded and posted online as worthy of being thrown off of tall buildings. Still, even as Ben Cardin tries to wipe clean the stain(s) left behind by Aidan Maise-Czeropski, his office continues to run interference for the enemies of Israel (and humanity) and masters of Hamas in Tehran.

The MAHSA Act was passed on a bi-partisan basis in the republican-led House of Representatives earlier this session and sent to the Senate, where Ben Cardin is the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee. The bill, named for the hijab-resister murdered by Iran’s morality police (who would have had ample evidence to act against Cardin’s former staffer), would require the enactment and enforcement of sanctions against members of the Iranian regime involved in terrorism and human rights abuses. Cardin’s staff advised Iranian-American human rights activists that they were going to allow the bill to die in committee without action.

Given the inextricable link between the Iranian regime and Hamas, it appears that like so many other elected democrats, Cardin’s staff has decided to veto his previously-expressed strong support of Israel by rewarding its enemies, and flexing their muscles (externally, in this case) on their behalf. It is almost as if the staff now feels they are free to act on their own beliefs and this latest action has borne this out.

Of course, it is difficult for anyone over the age of 60 to hear the words “borne” and “free” in the same sentence, without flashing back to the 1966 movie “Born Free”, which was based on the true story of a Kenyan game warden and wife’s trials and tribulations involving raising an orphan lion cub and returning her to the wild. The movie had a theme song of the same name by Matt Munro that won the Academy Award for Best Song, and it was also a big hit for Andy Williams. For more than 30 years of radio broadcast excellence, Rush Limbaugh featured the theme song (accompanied by gunfire) as part of his Animal Rights Updates, and elevators and department stores over the last six decades have managed to turn instrumental versions into the ear worms of their guests.

Of such, it seems appropriate to appropriate a musical standard of the 1960s and 1970s, to give due homage to a man of that era who lingers in office and is preempted by his staff, who seem to be free to do as they please.

Ben C.
Your staff is revolting
Towards Tehran they’re bolting
They choose to help out Iran

Ben C.
Your staff they will shine now
They shout “Free Palestine” now
In a voice that’s not like a man

Ben C.
Staff has no inhibitions
They put on exhibitions of acts some people might hide

Ben C.
The life your staff’s living
They hope you’re forgiving
‘Cause you’re Ben C.

Ben C.
No sanctions abide you
Iran’s free to push genocide so that Israel’s fried

Ben C.
Perhaps this deters ya
It’s Maryland not Persia
Elected Ben C.
