July 13, 2024. An assassination attempt was made on Donald Trump. March 30, 1981. Ronald Reagan. October 14, 1912. Theodore Roosevelt. June 14, 2017. Republican Congressional baseball practice. How do these tie together? They don’t. But they do have in common a disgruntled, emotionally sick individual who tried to end someone’s life. And on July 13, he did. And a heroic man died.
How could this happen? Remember how the msm has extolled the Left and excoriated the Right? About Congressional “leaders” dissing their “friends across the aisle,” another Branch of government and its Justices, and an ex-President. Calling MAGA Republicans “extremists” and “white supremacists” who want to destroy the country. Presenting Trump as Hitler? How do these tie together? Like this.
There are apparently many people in our great country who hear political smack talk and are inflamed. Not simply angered. There are other unstable individuals that hear the voices and act on them thinking perhaps they’re saving the Republic. And how many people think of Clarance Darrow’s quote, “I have never killed a man but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure.” Have we allowed decency and humanity to be sucked from our souls?
And this massive security failure begs the question, how did a twenty year-old outwit the Secret Service and local police and access the only platform with direct line-of-sight to Trump’s podium that was unattended? I’ll wait for the investigative results but remember, the FBI botched the “baggie” in the WH, Larry Nasser, and the DNC/RNC pipe bombs. As to the SS Director, she assumes responsibility but not accountability. Disgraceful. Seems that’s the same mantra we heard after Kabul.
This is not about the gun. Nor the shooter. It’s about society. It’s asking,Hhave we individually thrown away Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs? Do we collectively still believe in the Seven Foundations of Society? What happens when someone feels divorced from either or both? We saw that Saturday.
POTUS now calls for “unity.” But without truth, unity is impossible. And the calls for “toned down” rhetoric will be gone within a week.
