Megan Basham connects the dots from Cultural Marxist (Leftist) organizations or persons to Evangelical organizations and leaders and how much money was involved climate change. Let’s follow the evidence and comment on conclusions.
Her introduction points to the heart of the matter. Among conservatives, “Protestant evangelicals are the single largest religious group by 23 points.” The Left, Human Secularist Totalitarians in my parlance, must defeat Protestant Evangelicals to defeat political Conservativism.
Therin lies the rub, the Left has to break the connection between Evangelical faith and Conservative politics. One way to break it is to infiltrate Evangelical churches deliberately like the Communist Party did in mainline Protestant churches between 1920 and 1950 (The Devil and Karl Marx, Paul Kengor). Another way is through the steady march of Cultural Marxism through American institutions. Basham shows how money is used to speed things up.
Moving money to the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission and the National Association of Evangelicals may buy some influence. But, moving Church leaders Left doesn’t change the whole cloth of Evangelical faith. It certainly has an effect. But as Megan Basham does so well, the leaders will be exposed as false teachers because of the Bible. Evangelical Protestantism isn’t based on a hierarchical leadership. It’s based on the Bible.
The false and cheapened gospel of social justice and other folly slaps the ear of Bible-believers. They know the words sound sweet but ring wrongly. They’re discordant. Out of tune. Try putting “abortion” and “Bible” in the same sentence. Any falsehood constructed is self-evident to Bible readers.
Furthermore, there are voices speaking against the Cultural Marxist wolf in an Evangelical preaching pulpit or professor’s podium. The opposition doesn’t have the money the Left has to market their message, but they have expertise, subject by subject, to refute the explicit lies of Cultural Marxism build on a foundation of falsehoods. The Truth will out.
I say again, Megan Basham nails a new 95 theses to the church door.
Fortunately, the church doesn’t need reforming as much as education. And marketing. It’s easy to inform Evangelicals about the few, obvious apostates calling themselves Evangelicals. It’s a bit more nuanced to show the error of an Evangelical’s pronouncements when he gets out of his Gospel lane. Because, who knows the other person’s intent? Do these Evangelicals really believe the nonsense they spout about Climate Crisis, DEI/CRT, illegal alien invasion, Covid-19 tyranny, LGBTQ, or abortion? Or, are they just gullible enough, ignorant enough, or foolish enough to be swayed by Cultural Marxism on one subject, one time?
The allegation about “the GOP has dangerously co-opted the American church” is a false narrative. It’s the “go to” argument when “keeping politics out of the pulpit” fails. The people who make both arguments want to shut up their opposition. The same people are fine with every “Woke” word spoken for the social issues listed in the paragraph above.
Frankly, I don’t want partisan politics of any stripe preached. But, when you look at evil in the eye, the truth should be told. Like the maiming and mutilation of children for “trans gender affirmation” is almost as awful as killing babies in the womb. Both are great evils. Preaching against evil isn’t politics. It only becomes partisan when one party chooses to champion evil and call it choice, health care, reproductive rights, and good.
Megan Basham’s book is a new guide to the perplexed on what’s really political about the pulpit
