Because, Who Needs Proof? California’s Brilliant Plan to Ban IDs for Voting

Let’s face it: we live in a world where you need an ID for almost everything. Want to buy a bottle of wine? Better have that ID ready. Need a driver’s license? The ID comes first. Want to purchase a gun? Get ready to show who you are. But when it comes to voting for our politicians, the leaders who decide the future of our entire nation, California seems to think proving you exist is just too much to ask.

Yes, you heard that right. While many states are ramping up voter ID laws to ensure integrity in elections, California is taking it a step further… backward. It has essentially made it illegal to show an ID when you vote. You know, because God forbid we make it even remotely challenging for someone to engage in voter fraud.

This is peak “logic.” After all, it’s impossible to function in the United States without some form of ID. Want to fly? Need an ID. Want to open a bank account? ID required. But casting your vote, the sacred act of democracy? Well, why on earth would you need to prove who you are for that?

You can’t even rent a library book without an ID, but sure, let’s just let anyone waltz into the polling station and scribble on a ballot with no verification whatsoever. Because, obviously, nothing could go wrong there. And don’t even start with the “voter suppression” argument. If you can get an ID for everything else in life, it’s hard to believe that showing one to vote is somehow oppressive.

Surely, there’s no nefarious reason behind the ban on voter IDs, right? I mean, how could anyone possibly argue that making it harder to prove someone’s identity would lead to, oh I don’t know, voter fraud? What a totally wild, unfounded conspiracy theory. It’s not like proving who you are is a basic cornerstone of every other major transaction or interaction in life. Nope, when it comes to the critical act of choosing our government officials, why bother?

Because in California, making it impossible to determine fraud is apparently the best way to ensure… transparency?

Makes sense to those in the land of fruits and nuts, I guess. But to the rest of us, it’s just plain stupidity.
