Memo Madness: How Unelected Bureaucrats Are Playing Fast and Loose with Democracy

Here we go again—just when you thought bureaucrats couldn’t be more disconnected from reality, they’ve decided to one-up themselves. The DoD has quietly dropped a memo upgrade, DoD Directive 5240.01, that essentially gives the military the green light to assist in civilian law enforcement, including the use of lethal force, right before the election. And because unelected officials never shy away from subtlety, they figured, “Why not now?” You know, nothing calms pre-election tension like letting the military play a more active role in civil disturbances. What could possibly go wrong?

This sneaky little memo says that under “national security conditions” or “imminent threats,” military personnel can jump in to help civilian law enforcement with potential lethal force. Why is this a problem before the election? It sends a chilling message: that civil unrest, aka political protests or any form of dissent, could easily be labeled a “threat.” In case you’ve forgotten, this election is already bursting at the seams with tension. Civil liberties? More like civil liberties on a leash  .

But let’s not stop there—this directive is a disaster waiting to happen after the election, too. Picture this: Election Day is a mess (surprise), and now you have military intervention authorized to keep the peace. One wrong move, one order gone awry, and suddenly peaceful protests or demonstrations against contested results turn into a reason to call in lethal force. It’s a bureaucratic overreach with serious consequences, not just for the election but for the very fabric of democracy. Remember the Posse Comitatus Act? The one that’s supposed to keep military action out of domestic policing? Apparently, it’s become more of a suggestion than a law  .

Now, sure, they’re throwing around the phrase “Secretary of Defense approval required” like that’s supposed to make us all sleep better at night. Because if history’s taught us anything, it’s that high-level government oversight never gets abused, right? These unelected bureaucrats are rewriting the rules just weeks before the election. And let’s be real—it’s not for your safety, it’s to expand their control. The timing is no accident; it’s about setting the stage for post-election chaos control, with the military as their heavy-handed tool.

In short, this memo isn’t just another bureaucratic shuffle of papers. It’s a power grab dressed up as “national security.” The bureaucrats are overstepping their oaths to protect and serve the Constitution by playing with fire. And when the fire inevitably spreads—either before or after the election—guess who’ll be standing in the smoke, asking how this all went wrong? Certainly not the bureaucrats, who will be too busy drafting their next directive.
