Why did the Democratic Party think that Kamala Harris was qualified to be President of the United States?
Well, it might be because today’s Democratic Party sees the Presidency as a very different office than Americans see it.
Consider:
For generations, the Democratic Party has had a certain relationship with union bosses – less and less so with their membership, but always with the bosses – wherein government would institute programs the union bosses wanted so that the unions would reciprocate on election day. Locate the polling places in schools so that union teachers can more easily “volunteer,” hold campaign rallies at union halls, mandate union membership – by law – so that the shop stewards will be assured the ability to collect huge dues, whether the workers are happy about it or not. Quid Pro Quo.
Early in the Obama regime, the White House declared that the auto industry was in desperate shape and needed drastic, unconstitutional measures. So the White House designed a plan to take over General Motors and remake it under UAW management, and sold off Chrysler to foreign companies, and forced them all to close the majority of their dealerships in order to give the remaining ones more of a local monopoly. The fact that most of the dealers they shut down happened to be owned by Republicans is one of those facts that their allies in the press weren’t allowed to publicize. But oh, what a windfall it was for the Democrat-owned dealerships that remained. Quid Pro Quo.
Also during the Obama regime, the White House illegally took the power to give massive grants and loans to companies that called themselves “green energy” pioneers, regardless of the business model or odds of success, as long as they were donors to Democrat causes. Some were already in bankruptcy when they received this taxpayer largesse, and failed shortly thereafter. Quid Pro Quo.
Both during the Obama years and the more recent Biden years, the Democrats pushed through Congress huge spending bills, ostensibly to pay for infrastructure or similar noble goals, but how was the lion’s share of those tax dollars really spent? On grants for Covid-19 support or other sham causes to functionally bankrupt Democrat-run cities, counties and states. Federal grants for useless light rail projects, federal grants for electric bus projects, federal grants for new soft “community policing” programs. All designed to pour federal money into bankrupt jurisdictions to help them postpone the day of fiscal judgment a few years longer.
As cities like Baltimore, Chicago and Los Angeles tumble further and further into the pits of hell, they have grown more and more dependent on this federal money – exactly the opposite of the intent of our Founding Fathers, who designed our federal government to be completely dependent on the tolerance of the states, not the other way around.
The American system was a rebellion against much of human history, throughout which the people have so often been dependent upon their governments for jobs, shelter, and food and drink. Independence was the buzzword of the American founding; dependence is the aspiration of the modern American Democrat.
And in so many ways, Kamala Harris looked like she would fit that bill when the Democrats nominated her in the shadows, in the summer of 2024.
They overthrew the nominee they had legally selected in their primary and caucus system, in a weekend coup following the exposure of the old criminal’s senility on national television.
They replaced him on the ballot with his “vice president” – illegally installed four years ago by vote fraud, proven to be incompetent and undeserving throughout her easy reign – thinking that the credentials on her resume and the racial diversity of her ethnic background might be enough to push her over the finish line in November.
Throughout the campaign, she behaved like a Democrat officeholder. She blew through some $1.5 billion in just four months, an amazing feat.
You can’t spend that kind of money with millions of volunteers. This campaign had to work to spend this kind of money.
Remember, Democrats get free support from their union toadies. They get free advertising from their friendly political action committees. They get 90%-plus positive news stories in the mainstream media, while news coverage of Republicans is 90%-negative. Democrats get influencers on social media wearing their campaign tee-shirts and putting their bumper stickers on their little electric cars. Democrats have late night talk show hosts and daytime chat shows as well, all spouting the party line and if they mention Republicans at all, it’s to make fun of them.
How on earth could Kamala spend one and a half billion dollars when all that is going on for her, for free?
She and her campaign broke records to do it.
We are gradually learning that they spent millions of dollars on private jets. They spent millions on food and drink for “volunteers.” They spent millions hiring the people for jobs that are usually done by volunteers, like neighborhood canvassing and phone bank work.
The Harris-Walz campaign paid for people to attend their rallies, so that they could pretend to themselves that they had turnouts like President Trump’s.
The Harris-Walz campaign paid a hundred thousand dollars to build a studio for a “Call Her Daddy” podcast appearance. They paid a couple million to Harpo Productions so they could get Oprah Winfrey to endorse her publicly. They paid millions – reports of a seven digit figure were unbelievable at first, but now, who knows? – to get Beyonce to appear in person and endorse her, at a rally at which the audience was so upset at being conned (they had come to hear the pop star sing, not talk) that they shouted her down and couldn’t even hear her endorsement.
Today, weeks after the campaign’s loss, the Harris-Walz campaign continues to appeal for donations to pay their amazing campaign debt, as they are at least $20 million in the red. “It’s a rounding error” on a $1.5 billion campaign budget, we are told, and that’s true, but it doesn’t make it any easier to see how they could blow so much money so quickly.
But they appear to have paid everyone for everything. All the things that Republicans do as volunteers, the Democrats only do if they’re paid – especially when they realize more and more every day, that they are sailing a sinking ship.
But back to our original question: why did the Democrats ever think that this uninspiring, inarticulate clown, a woman proven incompetent in her youth as a state’s attorney, and all the less competent as she graduated again and again to higher positions of irresponsibility, could ever be President of the United States?
It’s because she did what they expect of a politician: She gives them stuff.
As long as Kamala Harris has money, she spends it.
She pays companies for things that aren’t needed. She pays people for things they should be doing for free. She charters planes when flying commercial would be a fraction of the price. She pays for endorsements.
Left unsaid and unconsidered were the natural reactions to such decisions. They never thought that the people who endorsed her for free would feel cheated, wondering why she didn’t pay them too. They never cared that the people who donated money to her cause would be horrified that she lit a match to it, hour by hour, day by day.
They never imagined that the money would run out, because they’ve never bothered to pay attention to a budget in their entire careers; if they spend too much, they just go to the federal government and get bailed out with taxpayer funds. It’s what they’ve been doing for years.
But they lost.
And they are watching a house of cards come down around them.
“Perhaps,” might they ask themselves, “should we have nominated someone who understands budgeting, and negotiation, and price comparison, and management? Should we have perhaps selected a nominee who understands the business world and can be trusteed to be responsible with $1.5 billion dollars, especially if we’re considering giving her a job managing trillions?”
No. Of course not. They’re not that reflective yet.
If they were… they would’ve become Republicans by now.
