Ah, election season. That magical time when grown adults suddenly transform into cultists, ready to worship at the altar of their chosen political messiah. Every four years (or let’s be real, constantly), Americans gather around their televisions, frothing at the mouth, convinced that if their guy wins, salvation is imminent. If the other guy wins? Well, grab your bug-out bag, because it’s the end of civilization.
Here’s the harsh truth: politicians aren’t here to save you. They aren’t divine figures descending from the heavens to bestow justice and prosperity. They’re salesmen, and the product they’re selling is themselves. And yet, every election cycle, people forget this basic reality. Instead of treating candidates like flawed human beings auditioning for a temporary job, voters treat them like deities—incapable of error, immune to scrutiny, and destined to fulfill prophecy.
And let’s not pretend this is just a left-wing thing or a right-wing thing. Remember the Obama era? The man had people literally crying at his rallies, acting like he was about to lead humanity into a utopian Star Trek future. Fast forward to Trump, and suddenly, a different crowd is treating a Manhattan real estate mogul like the anointed warrior of God. “Only he can save us!” they cry, while clutching their commemorative gold-plated MAGA Bibles.
But here’s a little secret: they all lie to you. Every single one of them. Because that’s what politicians do. Their job isn’t to tell you the truth; their job is to tell you what you want to hear—wrapped in just enough patriotic fluff to make you feel good about ignoring reality.
So, before you pledge your undying loyalty to the next political savior, remember: they don’t know your name, they don’t care about you personally, and they definitely aren’t losing sleep over your problems. They’re here to win, to wield power, and to keep you emotionally invested enough to forget that you’re being played.
