Easters Past, Future, and Present

Easter 2025 was pleasant as it was lived in the present. But, much of this Easter, I’ve pondered about Easters in the past and those coming in the future. At this short end of life I won’t see many of Easters I imagine in the future. However, I care about them for my children and grandchildren and the seed of their seed as well. Since my caring counts not to change the ways of the world, I return to the present to live, love, and pray as best I can.

I can recall Easters for at least 70 years in the past. Back to when I was dressed up in shorts, coat, and bow tie by my Mother for Easter Sunday. Have the pictures to confirm it. My recollections run to ruminations about the histories I’m reading all the time. Like, what’s changed and what’s the same?

America and the world have changed significantly. Describing it all is an invitation to run down endless rabbit holes. It’s too much to recount in this piece. Meanwhile, people haven’t changed a lick. The eternal truths of the universe haven’t changed one iota. The essence of Easter is the same in all of its wonder and joy.

All Easters past celebrate the Resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ. All Protestant, Catholic, and Orthodox Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead. That He is alive today. That He sent a helper, the paraclete known as the Holy Spirit to literally reside in every Believer. And, we Believers will live on past our physical death.

Looking at Easters beyond my time in this body, the specter of conflict is stark. The truthful prediction in Matthew 24:6-8 is:

You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.

I believe this prediction could be true for another 2 billion years until our Sun explodes. And, the prediction doesn’t preclude preparing to defeat Islamist Totalitarianism and Human Secularist Totalitarianism. After they’re gone, something else will come up to challenge Christianity.

I hope and pray that my progeny prevail in the fight against both Totalitarianisms which seek to destroy Christianity and Western Civilization. I hope and pray they survive the likely conflict with China in this century.

Writing warnings doesn’t seem like it’s enough. Screaming won’t be heard by many or heeded by any. That leaves the power of prayer.

I pray for victory after victory in the Lord’s Will until the end of the End Times. I pray for defiant, resilient courage after any defeat. I pray for protection for those I know and love – in the naturalness of my humanity.

I won’t see the particular outcomes of my prayers, since death diverts our attention from here forever.

So, returning to living in the present, I continue to claim Isaiah 59-21 as a personal covenant:

21 “As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord.

Finally, this Easter present fills me with gratitude. Gratitude for who Jesus is and what Jesus did. Gratitude for a personal relationship through the Holy Spirit.

Happy is this senior man to live every day grateful for too much to list and more than enough to live another day. Happy Easter 2025!
