Will the 2026 Midterms Break the Pattern?

President Trump entered office like Usain Bolt leaving the starting blocks. His first few months has been a master class in getting things done, as quickly as possible. The conventional wisdom is that he’s got to work fast – he only has two years to get as much done as possible. I’m not so sure.

In recent history, the party in power tends to lose control of Congress in the midterm election following the inauguration of a new President. But historically when that has happened, the opposition party hasn’t been a mob of TDS crazed lunatics.

It’s quite possible that 2026 will be different, because the Democrat Party is not presenting itself as a credible alternative.

Democrat judges – yes Justice Roberts, there is such a thing – are invalidating the last election, by issuing injunctions against the policies we voted for. What’s their midterm pitch? You might as well elect us, because if you don’t your vote won’t matter anyway.

Democrats are helping illegal aliens evade ICE, and have even assaulted law enforcement at a detention facility. After being arrested, they were outraged that anyone dared to apply the law to them. What’s their midterm pitch? Elect us so that we can write more laws that apply to you, but not to us.

Democrats have taken the side of criminal gangs, advocating for their due process over the rights of the victims. They even collectively voted against the Laken Riley Act. What’s their midterm pitch? Forget your safety, if you want our temper tantrum to stop, elect us.

Democrats have come out in favor of government fraud and waste. They are demanding that DOGE cease auditing the government, and that wasteful spending continue. What’s their midterm pitch? We don’t care about your money, and you shouldn’t either.

According to recent polling, half the Democrats think political assassination is perfectly okay if the target is someone they despise. Almost three-quarters think vandalism is valid political expression if directed against a rich guy. What’s their midterm pitch? Elect us, or we’ll burn it all down.

When 2026 arrives, will we hand control of Congress back to the Democrats because their messages resonate? If their sales pitch hasn’t won our votes, will we hand control of Congress to them because we fear what they might do if we don’t? Or will we vote to keep Democrats as far away from power as possible – at least until they regain some level of sanity? We’ll see.
