Warped Speed: A Novella, Chapter 10: The Reckoning

They infiltrated Chicago in three teams: Caleb and Rue on the ground, Andrew in the network core with a data worm coded to erase command chains.

“You remember how fast they rolled out the mRNA vaccine?” Dwyer asked.

Caleb nodded. “Emergency use. Warp Speed.”

“It wasn’t just about fighting a virus,” she said, sliding a tablet across the table. “It was a genetic canvas. The jab destabilized dormant gene markers—markers we now know weren’t entirely human. Once primed, subjects were susceptible to something… older. Something not of this world.”

Caleb didn’t respond right away. He didn’t need to. He was already connecting the dots. The mutations. The mental changes. The rise in violence. Spiritual deadness.

Nephilim blood had found its way back into the human genome.

They moved like ghosts. Rue took point, dispatching guards with quiet fury.

Inside, they found it—rows of servers pulsating like veins. In the heart of it all, a tank of fluid holding a hybrid neural construct, whispering in multiple voices—human and not.

“Welcome back, Caleb,” it said. “Your father sends his regrets.”

They’d used his father’s mind as a substrate.

Rue looked at Caleb. “We end this.”

Andrew triggered the worm. The system surged. Lights exploded. The hybrid convulsed and died screaming.
