In the 1950’s, long before Arctic warfare became trendy again now in 2026 —before the think tanks rediscovered parkas and PowerPoint slides—the United States quietly built an entire nuclear city under the ice in Greenland. Not a base. Not a bunker. A city. With hallways, living quarters, electricity, plumbing, a chapel, and—because this is America—a big nuclear reactor.
Welcome to Camp Century, the Cold War’s most aggressive act of “don’t worry about it. You don’t need to know anything.” Officially, it was a “research station.” Unofficially, it was the opening act for Project Ice-worm, a plan so ambitious it made the Pentagon briefly believe ice was a static substance. The idea: hide nuclear missiles under Greenland in a massive tunnel network, shuffle them around like shell game cups, and keep the Soviets guessing.
And yet—here’s the important part—it still exists. Unclassified. Documented. Real. We already have an American city under Greenland, we already occupied it, it’s still ours, we spent billions on it, along with some radioactive waste we left behind.
Welcome to 2026 and arctic warfare is back, and better than ever baby… Fast-forward to today. The Arctic is suddenly “strategically vital” again. Russia is planting flags. China is calling itself a “near-Arctic power,” which is adorable in the same way a goldfish calling itself a dolphin is adorable. And NATO is once again discovering that cold hurts, and how weak and flaccid they truly are. They “play” army like a bunch of junior-high school kids.
Meanwhile, the U.S. is sitting on a literal Cold War ice metropolis and acting like this isn’t relevant. If we already built a nuclear-powered underground city under Greenland… Is Greenland really that foreign? Nope, it was already the 51st State (Pre-Installed Infrastructure Edition).
Greenland is three times the size of Denmark. It has more strategic real estate than half of Europe combined. It sits astride the polar routes, missile arcs, undersea cables, and the future of Arctic logistics. And we already proved—decades ago—that if we need to, we’ll just carve America into the ice. We are not playing games anymore…
So when people laughed about buying Greenland a few years back, and again today… We’ll, that’s just being kind. Maybe they missed the subtext. This isn’t colonialism. This is just simply a home renovation, it’s already ours. We didn’t just invade Greenland during the Cold War, we installed the utilities. The United States once buried a nuclear city under the ice because it seemed like a reasonable idea at the time. Arctic warfare is cool again. Greenland is strategically priceless again. And we already left a calling card under the ice that says. We were here first. We brought our own nuclear reactor.
Call it history.
Call it strategy.
Call it Trumpland if you want.
But one thing’s clear… We didn’t just accidentally build a nuclear city under a continent back in the 1950’s to pretend today that we are not still invested. We already own it as the Global Hegemon, we are just being nice offering them some fiat printed money today for the right to change the flag to the stars and bars.
