Left vs Right… a false dichotomy as we get played

Many years ago, I was on the board of the New Hampshire Conservative Political Victory Fund (CPVF), at that time chaired by former Congressman Chuck Douglas. CPVF’s purpose was to support conservative candidates for office, focused on four fundamental principles: no statewide tax of any kind,1 support for the 2nd Amendment, support for prolife candidates, and support for a state Right to Work law.

Not long after the late Steve Merrill was elected the state’s Republican governor, we had a meeting of CPVF to discuss Merrill’s proposal for a statewide “business enterprise tax.” This was a proposition which CPVF had to oppose to stay true to its principles. Sitting on the board were two Republican state representatives, and during that evening meeting in early 1993, these two state lawmakers, both who were great conservatives on the issues, said “we must support the Governor on this. After all, he’s our Republican governor.” I had to gently remind both of them that we were the “Conservative”… not “Republican”… Political Victory Fund. Ultimately, we voted to oppose Merrill’s proposed tax increase.

President Trump’s war on Iran has now presented the MAGA folks with a serious problem. This was clearly a war of choice, with the President having ignored a golden opportunity to secure a real peace with Iran. Instead, he broke two of his key campaign promises: no more regime change operations and no more forever wars, and plunged headlong into a war on the other side of the globe. Of course, some may argue that this war of choice is but a short war, therefore making it acceptable to the MAGA brand.

But what’s the difference between one forever war, or a forever sequence of many short wars?

Yet, a weird phenomenon has emerged from this war. The same MAGA folks who would have shrieked at the top of their lungs if Uncle Joe Biden had launched this war are now the greatest cheerleaders for Donald Trump’s War. The reason they do this is the same problem presented by the two Republican state representatives on the CPVF board…

…they have lost sight of key principles, and now feel beholden to personalities and parties.

Making this phenomenon worse is that those fully onboard with Trump’s current war treat anyone who is opposed as something close to a traitor or enemy of the state. I have lost a half-dozen friends over this mess, simply because I questioned the war and told them that they should stop being cheerleaders for it. I tried to explain to them that one of my key concerns was how this will be the demise of the MAGA movement due to key promises that have been broken. My arguments fell on deaf ears. Instead, I suddenly was seen as something akin to a leftist peacenik and Muslim sympathizer. Anyone who is familiar with my writings knows I’m neither.

Part of this is due to our tendency to see everything as a dichotomy. If you oppose Israel’s wars of aggression, you are now a leftist Palestinian antisemite. If you oppose the NATO march to the east against Russia, you are now a Putin stooge and unpatriotic. If you oppose the kidnapping of a national leader in Venezuela, you are now a lover of the leftist legacy of Hugo Chavez. If you oppose seizing ships on the high seas simply because they don’t insure through Lloyd’s of London, you are now a supporter for illicit cargoes.

Instead of dichotomies, we need to go back to first principles that built Western civilization… the moral law of God. And if we do this, we will come to realize that the Globalist American Empire is not about liberty under law, but rather the creation of a global monopoly of resources controlled by a few elite businessmen, while concurrently foisting the most evil and despicable social behaviors on the rest of the world. We are told we’re fighting for freedom, when in reality we are killing women and children for the sake of CEOs to make easy money, while also engaging in population control by teaching those benighted foreigners to emasculate their children and promote homosexual marriage.

All one has to do is watch the Dow Jones and oil futures. Every time Trump makes a threat, the market crashes. Every time he says there’s a solution ahead, it goes up. People claim he is going TACO,2 or that he’s losing his mind. Rather, we are being played for suckers… again… and somebody close to the center of power is making very good money.

Meanwhile the MAGA faithful cry out… “… to war!”

About 15 years ago, when President Obama authorized homosexuals to openly serve in the American military, I asked a friend of mine, a senior Army chaplain, if the military leadership ever consulted the chaplains about this move. After all, our Muslim allies demand that female military personal must wear a headscarf when deployed in their nations. How would they feel about open homosexuals deployed in their lands? He said that they were never consulted. Concurrently, in 2016 I was in Berlin, preparing a staff ride for U.S. Army personnel. Interestingly, the only embassy I saw flying the rainbow flag was that of the United States. I walked the back streets, past dozens of embassies, and saw not one flying that flag save for our embassy. Not even the French embassy was flying the rainbow flag!

Now, after all these years, I understand why the early church fathers in large measure opposed Christians serving in the Roman Army. It was not so much about killing, as it was the subservience of their allegiance to the pagan Roman state. From the Biblical Christian worldview, there is no left and right dichotomy. There is just the saved and the lost. Those who have surrendered their lives to their Creator and hold to His law, and those who are in rebellion. When the latter have little power, the damage done is contained. But when they hold power, they do little but kill, steal and destroy.

Today the United States is a key leader of this godless rebellion.

Sadly, America’s military efforts are no longer based on a Christian worldview, long discarded by our elites. Rather, it is demonic and pagan to the core, while occasionally paying lip service to Christians to secure their support. Even as Secretary of War Pete Hegseth brandishes Christianity on his sleeve, the Trump administration has appointed open homosexuals to prominent roles in our government.3 This should tell us enough.

We are in deep, serious trouble. Rather than cheering for wars on the other side of the planet for the sake of filthy lucre and the rainbow flag, we need to focus on fixing things here at home.

While I agree that a goodly portion of the “culture” we export to the world doesn’t set a Godly or Christian example, I have to strongly disagree with your assertion that President Trump “ignored a golden opportunity to secure a real peace” with Iran. The theocracy has repeatedly shown their willingness to lie and obfuscate and for nearly five decades has shouted “Death to America”. I have no doubts that had they the wherewithal to attack our homeland directly, they would. There never has been, nor will there be, any lasting peace so long as that regime remains in power.
