I find discussions on social media about what it means to be a man in America or in any Western Civilization – to be miserable. The chatter is usually more a compendium of complaints than coherent thoughts. Yet the subject is important, because while the suicide of Western Civilization is shared by men and women, men must lead the actual fight to save it, restore it, and catapult it forward for a few more centuries.
Baptist Pastor Rick Warren’s 2002 “Purpose-Driven Life” sold over 50 million copies. Warren provides 5 Christian purposes for one’s life.
There is a purpose-driven life possible and focused for a young man in America and throughout Western Civilization in 2026 and for decades, if not centuries, to come.
Be a Christian Man. A young man can follow Warren’s Bible-based book to be a good Christian man. Or, he can read the Bible daily. Find a good Bible-based church and join it. (Easy to do in most of the U.S., harder to find outside the U.S.)
Any ploughboy can read the Bible for himself. Understanding more, like how the Old and New Testaments fit together, can be done in a small group Bible study or attentive listening to Evangelical ministers’ sermons and podcasts, and by regular attendance at a church where the minister preaches from the Bible every week.
Live each day from rising to resting as a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ so that whatever a man’s station in life is, his epitaph reads, “He was a good Christian”.
Have a Family. A young man should marry, stay married, have children or adopt, and live as a family. He works to provide for his family. If he is fortunate, he thrives on his work. Yet, if he is doing the labor which millions of others can do, his work still has a purpose.
His work, even at minimum wages, provides for his family. He can work two such jobs and part-time at another if necessary to provide what is needed, really needed, for his wife and family.
Those who scoff at this forget the generations of our ancestors who had nothing financially, but were rich in family and faith and freedom.
In other plain words, the young man doing repetitive low-skill or un-skilled labor has a purpose as a man because he has a family. His love for his wife and kids gives meaning to his life.
A good Christian man – regardless of his lot in life – can be a good son, brother, uncle, and cousin – friend – as well as husband, father, and grandfather. It’s the content of his character and the performance of his duties which make him a worthy man.
Make your own way in life, however hard, instead of being a ward – a servant, slave, or parasite – of government.
Prepare for Hard Times. Times of conquest, war, plague, and poverty come to most generations of men. Americans have lived in a bubble of relative peace and prosperity across our homeland for over 150 years. Our conflicts have been overseas. Our turmoil hasn’t risen to the tumult of civil war – again.
Islam is at war with Western Civilization. Even as Western Civilization invites hordes of Muslims to immigrate, proliferate, and prosper at taxpayer’s expense in the greatest, tragic act of mass suicide in human history. The West is Dar al’Harb – or the World of War.
Get and stay physically fit. Own firearms and practice using them. Encourage your church to have men and boys’ brotherhoods. They can work out, hunt, fish, or nature walk as they please. The point is to build fellowships of trust for when the bad, hard times come.
Christ, Family, Community, Country, and Civilization. A young man can find real purpose and meaning in a cascading array of loyalties and meaning worth his time and service.
Be a Christian man.
Have a Christian family.
Serve your community – your neighbors in a Christ-like way.
Be prepared to serve, even to fight, for your country and Western Civilization as a Christian man.
