France is going tribal – substituting identity grievances for law and order. What started as student protests has turned into a national crisis. Rioting is spreading across the country – and spilling across Europe’s non-existent borders. Jewish businesses are being burned – while Muslim owned businesses are spared. Iconic buildings are being destroyed. Museums have been closed. Subversives are demanding sharia while everyone appears helpless to stop its ascendance. Amidst it all, President Macron seems confused about who he’s supposed to surrender to.
Kevin McCullough has a great article up at Townhall entitled “Is Today’s France Tomorrow’s USA?”. he starts the piece by describing the carnage in France:
Nearly 1,000 French police officers injured. Roughly 2,400 people arrested. The Federation of Trade and Retail says close to 3,000 stores were hit by vandalism and looting in Paris, Marseille, and beyond. France deployed 60,000 police and security personnel just to manage Saturday’s unrest. Marseille banned demonstrations outright. Unions have now called for nationwide strikes on November 5, and multiple European governments are warning their own citizens to avoid crowds and exercise caution inside France. Caution. Inside France. That’s where we are.
Mr. McCullough then closes his piece by pointing out that France’s chaos is on our own ballot this November.
Look at what’s actually on the ballot here at home. Michigan’s Senate race features Abdul El-Sayed, a candidate who has spent his campaign aligned with the DSA’s platform — abolishing ICE, Medicare for All funded by math that no economist on the planet can actually make work, and a worldview that treats American border enforcement the same way France’s political class treated its own …
McCullough makes a convincing argument that France is what happens when a government refuses to enforce its laws.
But I’d like to return to the title question of McCullough’s piece: Is today’s France tomorrow’s USA?
Here’s my prognostication: No.
I’m not saying that a future President won’t throw our borders open to another foreign invasion. Nor am I confident that blue city mayors won’t allow their cities to burn when the next tribe has a grievance – they rather like the smell of burning tires after all. I’m saying that Americans are not Frenchmen, and our country is not destined for the same ending as France. We have something the French lack – the will, and the means, to prevent the anarchy from expanding beyond a few mismanaged cities.
Our creator gave us an inalienable right to self-defense. Our Constitution gives us the means to accomplish it – that right to bear arms thingy. And 111 million Americans have accepted that duty through the acquisition of nearly 500 million firearms (per Ammo.com).
Citizen patriots have stopped murderers at:
Unarmed Americans have even attacked armed terrorists on airlines and trains. When faced with chaos, we do no surrender, we confront.
Our government is not America. It is merely our servant. If and when it fails in its duty, I believe enough citizens retain the spirit of United 93 to do what the government refuses to do – preserve our republic.
That’s why I’m not terribly worried about losing America. But I am very worried about the cost of keeping it – in both treasure and blood.
Fortunately, we still have peaceful means to preserve America – but those means are under assault.
We have elections to impose our will on the government. Unfortunately, our electoral processes are being brazenly undermined. Illegal voting has become endemic, and in spite overwhelming public support, Congress refuses to address the issue.
Our states have a constitutional means to make our government heed us – the second clause of Article V of the Constitution. But fewer than half of our states are currently willing to use it. (See this)
As we go to the polls this November, we should consider the implication of bad choices. Former Special Counsel Jack Smith used his investigation to compile an enemies list for the Democrat party. Multiple assassination attempts have been made on President Trump – and the Dems were only upset that they failed. Senator Elissa Slotkin promised to prosecute Republicans for being Republicans – to deter young people from trying to make America great again. Susan Rice repeated the threat. Hillary Clinton suggested that the Dems pack the Supreme Court, and future Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris promised to try.
I’m an engineer by training. Putting pieces together is what I do. “Connecting the dots” is second nature to me. The collectivists have a plan for one-party rule. They have identified their enemies, and plan to eliminate them either by lawfare or violence – eliminating any judicial guardrails along the way.
Collectivism is spreading across Europe and North America. Our window for peacefully assuring our republic’s future is closing. Once the window for civil preservation of our republic closes, Americans will likely turn to “other means.” It’s not like we haven’t done it before.
