Robert Reich Wants to Seize SpaceX – What Could Go Wrong?

I promised our dear leader, the AFNN managing editor, that I’d give him at least two articles per week. Unfortunately, I occasionally have trouble finding something to write about. It’s never because it’s been a slow news week. Heck on any given day Cackles Harris will have said something unintelligible, or “What’s a Woman” Brown Jackson will have written something incoherent.

It’s just that I’ve already written everything I have to say about the insanity (literally) of the left, the corruption of the deep state, the moral bankruptcy of the collectivists, and the evil intentions of the Democrats.

So, whenever I find myself unmotivated to write about the week’s outrages, I pop over to the RealClear Politics curation of notable articles, to see if Robert Reich or Paul Krugman have written anything. Both are always 100 percent mockable. Well, I perused the list of articles recommended by RCP … and Robert Reich is up.

While being interviewed by Heather Lofthouse of The Coffee Klatch, former Labor Secretary Reich said:

If we have a Democratic administration—and the Democrats ought to be starting this, not just with oversight hearings, but also laying the groundwork for nationalizing Starlink and SpaceX. Nationalize it.

[Tip: “Nationalize” is commie speak for “take.”]

In that interview, Reich rounded out the communist talking points of the Democrat party’s current crop of lunatics.

  • Former VP “Cackles” Harris wants to pack the Supreme Court.
  • Senator “Night Agent” Slotkin and former National Security Advisor “What’s a Benghazi” Rice insist that we incarcerate their political enemies.
  • And Mayor Mamdani along with former Labor Secretary Reich want to seize the means of production.

Just to clear up any misunderstandings, they’re proposing that we “save democracy” with communism. Sure.

Maybe Bobby Reich didn’t notice that the US government already has a space business. It’s called NASA. In fact, NASA used to be the only space game in America, until the communist wannabes – sorry, “Democratic Socialists” – started screwing around with it.

In the 1960s NASA went from no manned space program, to landing a couple of guys on the Moon in under 9 years. NASA even brought them home alive, and then did it five more times – just to prove it wasn’t a fluke.

But then in the 1970s, the Dems, led by Walter Mondale, decided that NASA’s funding would be better spent on social justice. They changed the space agencies mission from “space exploration” to low earth orbit Amazon delivery. Congress killed Apollo, funded the Space Shuttle, and used the leftover Moon exploration money to buy food stamps. That’s when astronauts ceased being explorers, and became truck drivers without the Teamsters dues.

In 2011, President “Lightbringer” Obama decided to change NASA’s primary mission again, from space delivery, to Muslim outreach. His pals in Congress cancelled the Space Shuttle program without any replacement in hand. Their backup plan was to let Russia become our cosmic DoorDash service, delivering “astronauts” and supplies to the International Space Station (ISS). As Alfred E. Neuman would say: “What could go wrong?”

Now about 7 years before the last Space Shuttle flew, NASA decided it had better have something it could roll out to the launchpad, after all the Shuttles arrived at their final museum resting places. The agency still had that annoying “space” word in its title after all. If it didn’t have a way to strap a guy to a rocket, it might be bad for Congressional appropriations. In 2004, NASA decided it needed another spacecraft – pronto.

After 22 years of rapid development – roughly two and a half times as long as it took to put Neil and Buzz on the Moon – NASA has managed to

  • Maroon two astronauts (Butch Wilmore and Nuni Williams) on the ISS for 286 days,
  • Do a lunar fly-by without stopping, and
  • Generally, verify that the government doesn’t do anything well.

That’s where the African-American whom Robert Reich despises comes in. Elon Musk watched the NASA follies, and said “There must be a better way.” Then he built SpaceX from the ground up. I’m sure President Obama would say that Musk “didn’t build that himself.” But that’s because our community organizer in chief never spent a day framing a house or plowing a field. If he had, I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t claim somebody else did it.

Now, the company which Elon built conducts hundreds of launches every year, provides internet service to every corner of the globe, and even rescued Suni and Butch from their extended ISS vacation. The Democrats who’ve been using NASA as a social justice experiment created a market need, which Elon Musk filled.

SpaceX proves that capitalism works, which is what really irks our diminutive former Labor Secretary. Capitalism does what communism can’t. Such a demonstration cannot be allowed to continue, so SpaceX must be stolen – sorry, “nationalized.”

If we give the commies control of the legislative and executive branches of government, they will host a “make the rich pay their fair share” orgy. They’ll use their regulatory and taxation powers to seize SpaceX and enough other companies to fund their Somalian entrepreneur outreach program.

But what’ll happen in space if Reich gets his way? The International Space Station is going to get very crowded – that’s what. You see, after over two decades of work on a new spacecraft, the government hasn’t figured out how to do that “round trip” thingy – where you go somewhere, stop for a visit, and then actually come back. Maybe NASA could pop over to the local Tesla dealership to see if they have any deals on used Crew Dragons – that is until SpaceX becomes NASA. Then it’ll be back to the Russian rideshare service. What could go wrong?
