If you go and sample Youtube, to see how to do something, or how to think about something, the experts are out in force, wanting you and I to believe something. Many are true experts, not trying to sell anything, except to make you think about what your lying eyes are telling you, and that group of experts can be a mixed bag.
Some will go for fifteen minutes trying to tell you that determinate tomatoes taste better than indeterminate ones. Others will try to tell you that up is down. Ukraine is winning, and at the same time Ukraine is losing.
And all that is prefaced by some of the dumbest ads that Madison Avenue has ever concocted, and repeated in ways that Joseph Goebbels would have never imagined. So, sometimes you have to put up with silly ads to get to the meat and potatoes of the thinkers and experts.
Then, there are real experts, who don’t claim to be experts, but their expertise is put in ways that you see it, rather than it be shoved down your throat like a bad tasting medicine. Thomas Sowell, Jordan Peterson, darned near anyone the Hoover Institute puts up on interviews. PragerU, some of the best examples of people with brains who are only trying to put the information out there, without all the crap that goes along with brainwashing. Those experts are humble, precise as they can be, and always endearing to entertain further question and discussion.
Many of us gravitate to them with such ease, that all it takes is a little exposure, like an Oxford Debate, an old video of the Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn address at Harvard(translated) and so many great videos about morals, ethics and religious questions. In his address at Harvard, he stepped in it, from the very beginning, when he mentioned the word “Veritas”. It started making heads turn, from the Boston Globe, WaPo and the NY Times to a bunch of elites who bought more than they bargained. That was when the left did all they could to discredit Solzhenitsyn. He stepped on toes.
Dr. Peter Kreeft narrated the video, and sitting next to a friend, who he says was a “liberal psychologist” who didn’t seem to be picking up what Kreeft was, the elegance and honest brutal truth coming from a Soviet dissident who had everything to do with the eventual fall of his previous jailers(he lived in the Gulags for years, so he would be in a position to know about good and evil), and if it were not for a little time for dissidents to be able to actually have printed some of what Solzhenitsyn wrote, the Soviet Union may still be around. Solzhenitsyn lived what he wrote, and his speech was directly aimed towards the way Harvard and many other universities were heading. If you look at the bulk of our colleges and universities, you might understand where Solzhenitsyn was coming from: lack of “Veritas”. Solzhenitsyn was an expert. He, being an expert, and Kreeft being the expert analyst narrating his speech, was a wonderful experience. Both didn’t try to sell anyone on nonsense. One spoke experiences of his own risk of life in the Gulag, and the other was careful in his translation and leaving out a narrative. Just the facts!
Real experts in their field are honest. They don’t talk down to their audience. They just say what they live, believe, and portray themselves openly. The video is not very graphic, but it is filled with so much beautiful analysis, that it awakened me to a lot of things I have let slide, for far too long. You can listen to the speech in the original Russian language, but Dr. Kreefts captures it all in a way you can appreciate. Worth every minute of it!
All the rest are just propagandists trying to distort reality and make you not believe your lying eyes.
Seek out the honesty and it will smack you upside your head. All the rest have to work too hard and just make your head tilt. No one should ever have to sell you on Veritas. It’s often right in front of you
