Woke-Standing on Their Betters’ Shoulders

There are those who stand on the backs of what other men made, and then forget. So are self-identified “elites” ruining our Country? Taking us down a “woke” road whose end they cannot define?

So where did “wokeness” come from? Our elected leaders? “Captains of industry?” Our guardians of democracy—the Fourth Estate? My guess is none of these. I think it came from out of the darkness of higher education where it lay in wait with those who retain the knowledge of the Ages.

What is woke then? Some may define it as “progressive activism.” Some may, as Merriam-Webster does, define it as being attentive to societal facts and issues—like social and racial justice. But then you can always be “fake woke” too. We used to call that hypocrisy. So my first question is, does woke lift up or tear down? Is it whining for no apparent purpose other than to feel good about yourself? Conflating truth with facts—fake news? Living in a self-made Oz? A little arrogant it seems.

But it’s catching on. A US Representative from Texas actually put forth a woke bill to prosecute those on-line, who in her opinion, “conspire to commit white supremacy inspired white hate crime.” What does that even mean? I do love Texas as I spent a lot of my early life there, but we were not all the sharpest knives in the drawer. And unfortunately, some of those that weren’t became politicians and “educators.”

And speaking of educators, I read where many colleges are segregating dorms for people of color ONLY, transgender ONLY, etc. Separate but Equal! And as I understand it, they’re naming them all after Judge John H. Ferguson. Now that’s funny. And USC’s school of social work will not longer use the term “field work” because it may have racial connotations. Did a Texas educator migrate to California?

So we have people who obviously navigate this world only by the stars and by fate. But some advice, don’t try to drag the rest of us into your fantasy. SPOILER ALERT: the woke won’t inherit the earth
