Something happened to me a few days ago that caused me to revisit an idea made ubiquitous during the height of the Covid response by the Federal government and the states, severally; “non-essential jobs. I had had some work done on my jeep; new rear wheel bearings. Once I paid the bill, I drove home. the next morning I went to run some errands. Not more than a quarter mile down the road I hear a horrific grinding noise. I pull over and am confronted with the image of my left-rear wheel about to pop off the axle. Short version, the mechanic had neglected to tighten the lug nuts properly.
I didn’t get too excited about it. These things do happen and the shop where I do business was eager to make things right. If Her Majesty had been driving, I might be somewhat less sanguine. However, this did cause my thoughts to wander in another direction; how leftists and all too many RINOs view most members of our society who actually do stuff, like carpenters, electricians, plumbers and yes…the mechanic who is supposed to make sure the lugs are properly tightened. That in turn reminded me of how those same people and the things they did to earn a living and get their slice of the American Dream, were looked at by those eager to tell them how to live.
Back when the evil Wuhan Virus arrived on our shores and began killing thousands of Americans each and every day, the states severally adopted some draconian measures to “stop the spread.” Some of these responses were unarguable…fast-tracking contracting and acquisition authority to get more ventilators into the field, waiving certain drug test procedures to get possibly helpful medication out to the public more quickly, even tasking the various State National Guard units to set up temporary hospital facilities. These responses appeared at first blush, to be beyond reproach.
Then came the restrictions on the behavior of us ordinary citizens. Depending on the state governor involved, such restrictions ran the gamut from voluntary “social distancing,” to official limits on movements, gatherings and commercial activities…limits enforced by the threat of fines and/or imprisonment. Even enumerated Constitutional rights were put at risk; witness the attempted closure of gun stores by Blue State politicos.
These limits were often couched in what might sound like reasonable terms, “All public activity is to cease with the exception of ‘essential services’ or ‘essential jobs.’” On its face, that might have seemed a reasonable response. Call me paranoid, but I do get very nervous when I hear governments use the descriptive, “reasonable” when referring to an increase of government power or additional limits on my rights. What bothered me, in that particular case, is that those “reasonable” restrictions were promoted as though, in that situation, we absolutely needed to make a choice between the economy and the lives of our fellow Americans.
In their evaluation, the left defined “the economy,” as corpulent CEO’s who merely wish to add to their fortunes no matter the risk to their employees and customers. The meme went something along the lines of “not one life lost to sustain corporate greed.” Like most things the Left gets involved in, their evaluation was exactly…backwards.
The CEO’s of large corporations and all the other folks at their income level did just fine during that troubled period. Taxpayer funded Government employees and other folks on salaries being floated by corporations big enough to allow for that, also did just fine. However, the folks who the left purports to care so much about, those hourly wage workers, many in service industries and making not a whole lot more than minimum wage…did not by any means, do just fine.
These were the folks who lived paycheck to paycheck. They were Americans who, if they missed an hour, day, week, or month of work, they didn’t get paid. These people, mostly blue collar workers, were the ones that for each day of government-mandated idleness, lost a day’s wages…wages that they could ill afford to go without. These were our fellow Americans, who if they walked out their front door to drive to work in the morning and found 4 flat tires, would be financially devastated for months afterward.
To these people, their jobs are quite essential. The idea that their livelihoods can be taken away, perhaps never to return by the government, needs some sober contemplation. I understand the need for certain measures to fight certain attacks on America and Americans. However, I have real heartburn with an attitude demonstrated by some of my fellow American citizens and our elected representatives, that declares any American’s livelihood, “non-essential.” From my foxhole, there are NO non-essential jobs…except perhaps those being paid to tell others that their jobs have no value. Food for thought.

In the Bluegrass State, Reichsstatthalter Andy Beshear (NSDAP-KY) ordered churches, churches!, protected by the First Amendment to the Constitution, to be closed, but liquor stores were so essential that they were allowed to remain open.
Over time, I’ve come to the conclusion that the only folks who are morally entitled to opine on the essentiality and/or value of any job, are the folks doing the job and the folks paying for it.
Hope all is well with you.
Regards,
Mike
They have: that’s why employers can’t hire anyone -nobody wants to be “nonessential” ever again.
The closing of churches, really struck an evil cord with me. History shows that the first the dictators and tyrants want forcefully removed from society is God, especially christianity, which has been under full assault for the last 40 years, with nary a peep from the media, as if the almost approve of the removal of God from our society. “Onward christian soldiers” one of my favorite hymns comes to mind as we are truly in a battle for the soul of this country, that has been a beacon of freedom and hope to the entire world since it’s founding. The separation of Church and State, means to keep the state out of our places of worship, not to keep places of worship out of the public.
Democrats removed Christianity from any appearance on their platform, around 2010 or maybe earlier. We should not be surprised by their actions about closing churches with the wrath they place against them. What we are seeing, now, are the demonic forces within that party. It’s called persecution. Someone reminded us to expect it, around 2000 years ago.
Many forgot the lesson. Someone the Democrats directly rejected.
I think there are a lot of non-essential jobs in the public sector. We could fire 90% of federal workers and things would work better. Let them get real jobs!
When it comes to the most complex system in the world — our system of commerce — our politicians didn’t understand that every component (as in people) is essential. They were foolish to think they could just turn it off for a few weeks with no long-term negative consequences.
Greetings Colonel………
Just a comment on non-essential jobs….as a contrator for over 48 years during the false flag attack on we the people we had to reduce our business over 60%. We struggled over 4 months until the commie state of CA lifted some of the restructions. The government offered some relief in PPP loans…..I took advantage of the offer both times it helped but not the same as what we could of made. During the FF our church shut down….we had life groups in our church Peggy Sue and I were in one of these the church said we still had to meet every week but only with zoom and the services were done with zoom. Let me say this up front that our pastor teaches the Bible we are a non-denominational Christian Church. Peggy Sue and I have supported/served it for over 23 years. After a few months of this a few friends and I decided to look around to see who was open for services. In our town Grace Coummnity Church was open and never shut down. The other was a Church in Chino Hills an hour away….we herd great things about Calvary Chapel in Chino Hills. So we decided to give it a try…..that was over 2 yrs ago we still attend every Sunday…..we and the other couple trade of driving every other Sunday. Jack Hibbs is the Pastor and teaches the Bible and shows us how to use the word in our everyday life he is also very political…..we have speakers like Mike Pompeo and Charlie Kirk to keep us informed of current events. Last night Charlie was the guest speaker I urge everyone to view it…..here is the link..https://ccch.online.church/ start at 27:15 minutes…..cheers
Churches were forced to close while government guidelines for conducting “covid-safe” orgies were being issued. That’s all one need know about those claiming authority to decide what is “essential.”
“Back when the evil Wuhan Virus arrived on our shores and began killing thousands of Americans each and every day,”
That’s not true. There’s a world of difference between dying WITH Wuhan/Covid19 and dying FROM it. Greedy, crooked folk got paid for saying “Wuhan” on their reports so they went with the former even though it was not from the later. Folk thought they could live unhealthy lifestyles, especially poor nutrition, and get away with it, until Wuhan/Covid19 exposed them and many died from those lifestyles due to virus complications.
Also folk didn’t pay attention to how flu deaths weren’t reported so they wouldn’t compare the statistics and then realize that’s the kind of thing it was.
It’s a fact that natural remedies like vitamin D and some common drugs helped, but it interfered with the evil, depraved fascist narrative of Fauci and others (e.g. Pfizer) profiting from murdering millions with immeasurably more expensive drugs and phony “vaccines” for which a country of laws, not men, would try them for incredible mass murder that makes the Nazis at Nuremberg look comparatively innocent.
See why the Wuhan/Covid19 insanity is a religious cult at

Sadly, with the continued growth of A.I., robotics, and automation, a lot of these jobs are going to disappear. Think about travel agents, warehouse workers, and even independent mechanics. They are disappearing. You have to wonder what the future holds for those folks and many others who are watching their jobs being absorbed by A.I., bots, etc. Of course, there will always be a need for humans to fix the bots and program A.I.–at least until A.I. and bots can repair and program themselves. Then we will truly have entered a brave new world. Humans will be redundant. Hell, some of us already are. 😜😎
