One hundred years ago the Federal Government got into the Poverty business. It’s a business, not charity. It was FDR Democrats’ bad answer for an economic depression that they made worse and worse. Sounded right. Felt good to those who benefited, but the real cost to the economy, human dignity, American culture and civilization was hidden. The damage is still unseen to every Democrat and Establishment Republican loyal to the welfare state. It’s only one business which shouldn’t be the Federal Government’s business.
The shock of Wall Street’s crash in 1929 was followed by Congress and the Hoover and Roosevelt Administrations making every wrong move. The same thing happened with Congress and the Bush and Obama Administrations in the banking crisis of 2008. Government made it worse.
Read what Coolidge did in the sharp depression of 1920 to keep it to 18 months. That downturn was followed by the prosperous growth of the Roaring 20s.
As every government solution to the economic crisis failed and unemployment shot up to 25%, the churches, who had provided charity for Americans, were overwhelmed. They were grateful for government to step in and take over. Christian churches handed the moral scepter of charity to shameless politicians and inefficient bureaucrats.
LBJ Democrats expanded the Welfare State with the Great Society. Their programs destroyed Black families. They created the thug-ocracy of the ghetto that didn’t exist when Black men married and were working fathers.
Nixon and a Democrat Congress got government into the Drug business in a big way by declaring war on drugs. They also created the first iteration of the Race business with affirmative action.
Reagan, Bush Senior, Clinton with a Republican Congress, and “W” Bush didn’t dismantle the government businesses.
Obama Democrats got Government into the health care, insurance, and school loan business.
Trump did well on de-regulation, but didn’t get Government out of the businesses. He set the pick for Biden by not opening wide up after a 15 day shut down to let Governments at all levels go full on totalitarian dictatorship in Covid shutdowns, mask and vaccine mandates, and spending.
Biden is all in on the Illegal Alien business with his open border. Meanwhile, he’s caused inflation with a suicidal war on domestic energy, more regulations, and astronomic spending.
The collusion and conspiracy of the intelligence agencies and Department of Justice – especially the FBI, the IRS, News and Social Networks to serve in election interference as well as a criminal protection service is a new aspect of Federal Government business.
What the Federal Government does with Poverty – all food and welfare programs, Race, Drugs, Illegal Aliens, Healthcare, School Loans, Energy, and Protection Racketeering is a business.
Money is taken from taxpayers and paid through government workers, non-profits, corporations, schools, hospitals, etc. to eventually trickle down to the recipients. Decades ago, my graduate school (Keynesian) Macro-Economics class estimated that it took 4 dollars in taxes to create 1 dollar in government spending. Government spending is real “trickle down”
economics.
As Macro-Economics teaches us that taxes kill jobs, four jobs are killed for every one the politicians point to with pride. The four jobs are never seen, so they’re not noticed. The government hierarchy for a poverty program is quite evident and popular.
Government kills jobs to create a government jobs program and transfer payment to those who don’t work.
Truthfully, the best anti-poverty plan is a job. Any job.
The best anti-poverty program is an intact family with mother and father.
Yet, the soft-hearted cheap compassion of spending other people’s money sells. It has since the 1930s.
Would a Republican Congress and Republican President repeal Obamacare? Get the Feds out of school loan business? End food stamps? Stop all Federal welfare programs? Stop transporting and providing for illegal aliens? Make drug companies more liable for their vaccines? Close every DEI office?
You know the answer.
You can imagine the screaming, crying, self-righteous anger, and puffed up indignity, and on and on and on.
But…
Soon enough fatal inflation or bankruptcy will come to the U.S. Americans will have to make hard choices. It’ll be like drinking the poison of chemotherapy to kill your cancer. Our country will be ill and weak until the cancer is gone.
The Human Secularist Totalitarians who call themselves Democrats will argue for the failed “solutions” of the past.
If they stay in power past the election of 2024, they’ll blow through money worse than a professional athlete bejeweled in gold before they have to hock everything or the foolish lottery winner moving to a mansion on the way back to a trailer. The Establishment Republicans will help them.
Look at how quickly the Crash became the Great Depression? How long the slowest recovery in US history followed a housing bubble – caused by federal interference demanding mortgages be given to people who couldn’t pay them in the name of equity.
It’s going to get much worse as the Federal Government gets into the business of what car you can have, how far you can drive, where you can live, what appliances you can use, what you can eat, as well as the very fundamental rights of what you can say and read or how you can defend your family.
Maybe a President DeSantis can begin the process to get the Federal Government out of all the businesses where it has no business. And keep government out of your business – your life and freedoms.
