The United States, sadly, isn’t the country it once was.
The Justice Department’s most recent indictment of former President Donald Trump has generated widespread outcry about the grievous nature of the sitting president’s administration targeting his political rival. The agency’s ongoing legal jihad against Trump means that federal officials have not only interfered in the past two presidential elections, but that they’re actively interfering in the next one as well.
Egregious as it all may be, these are just some of the many instances of the U.S. government’s war on Americans’ civil liberties. In recent years, federal officials have been busted for colluding with Big Tech platforms to censor free speech, targeting pro-lifers, parents, and Catholics, and using Covid-19 as an excuse to orchestrate the greatest state-sponsored assault on American freedoms in the modern era, just to name a few.
It’s easy to describe what’s going on as “Police State” tactics, but really, these are the tactics of any government, no matter what its origin, that has grown too big and too powerful to be constrained by a written Constitution, the courts, or the voters. The signs of this are many, but here are a few:
- Liberal law-school professors – who, in theory, should know better – are urging the President to ignore Supreme Court decisions the Left doesn’t like.
- After two and a half years, January 6 protestors – a protest that arguably got out of hand but resulted in no more than hooliganism – are still rotting in jail while Antifa and BLM riotors get slaps on the wrist.
- Our military is being purposely downgraded to meet social justice standards; war-fighting no longer seems to be a priority.
- The FBI has become an enforcement arm for the Democratic Party.
All of these are signs of a government that has grown too large and too powerful.
Government is now the largest and largest-growing employer in the United States. In fact, the U.S. Federal government is the largest employer in the world. That government is over 32 trillion in debt – that’s trillion, with a “T”. And yet Congress spends like there is no tomorrow; the Biden(‘s handlers) Administration is taking credit for “deficit reductions” that even CNN admits don’t exist.
There is no easy way out of this. Government, especially rogue agencies like the FBI, have to be returned to their Constitutional limits. This would involve defunding and closing down many Cabinet-level agencies, which would be for the most part a really good thing. But we’re past the point of reform. Only swinging a meat axe and returning Washington to it’s 1787 defined guidelines will work.
While many Americans are dutifully following the blue-state party lines, the rest of the world is taking notice.
While Americans slowly realize how increasingly authoritarian our government has become, that reality certainly hasn’t slipped by the world’s most despotic nations. Continued failure to uphold the principles that made it the world’s shining city on a hill will destroy not only the very foundations of the American republic, but our credibility throughout the world.
It may already be too late.
