Republicans and Talking Abortion

In issue now for Republicans running for public office is how to “talk about abortion.” Since the Supreme Court in DOBBS held that the issue of abortion is for each state to decide and there is no federal constitutional right to abortion, local elections will involve abortion.

Democrats know how to “talk about abortion.” The Democrats, while attacking the Supreme Court for DOBBS, now use the abortion issue in every local race, from District Attorney to Mayor to County Executive., to scare voters that Republicans will not protect “reproductive rights.” Democrats lie to scare voters because only the state legislatures of each state can deal with abortion, not local officials.

Democrats never explain what “reproductive rights” are nor do Republicans ask the Democrats “what do you mean by reproductive rights?” The Democrat propaganda   never admits that reproductive rights means killing the unborn up to the day of birth. Democrats use the DOBBS decision to their political advantage in all elections: local, state, and federal.

This has left Republicans unprepared to answer the Democrats’ charge that every local race involves the issue of abortion. Prior to DOBBS the Republicans knew how to deal with abortion: it is not a federal constitutional right but an issue for each state.

Now the issue has been sent back to each state, but the Republicans are not united on how to deal with it. Some, such as Senator Tim Scott argue for a federal ban after fifteen (15) weeks; others argue for a different calendar limit. But this would return the issue to the federal government instead of the states. Some states ban abortion after six (6) weeks; others, such as California, New York, and Illinois allow abortion to the date of birth.

This difference in how to deal with abortion is the result in allowing each state to regulate abortion. It is historically like the concept of “popular sovereignty” advocated by Senator Stephen Douglas in the 1850’s to allow each state to determine whether to abolish slavery.

The real question is whether abortion, like slavery prior to the Civil War, should be allowed or outlawed. If the premise to oppose abortion is that the unborn child is a person entitled to protection, especially since it is the most vulnerable and weak in need of protection, then what is the moral logic of allowing killing an unborn child at 14 weeks but not 16 weeks? There is no moral argument to justify it, it is only political expediency to win elections.

This political expediency was stated by Nikki Haley in the Republican primary debate on November 8 when she said she will not judge anyone who gets an abortion and that we must learn “how to talk about abortion.” Politically, she is correct that this is the method to get votes by not scaring voters. But if the unborn child is a person entitled to protection, then how can you not say that abortion is wrong? To say that it is wrong is not the same as saying you will prosecute the woman who gets an abortion. What exactly is the problem telling a person it is morally wrong to kill an unborn child?

An unborn child is recognized in the law as a person entitled to protection, except protection from abortion. The Criminal Codes of most states define killing an unborn child as homicide, except killing by abortion, with each state differing at the gestation week that triggers the homicide law.

This protection is also recognized in federal law, with the same exception for abortion.

The issue of abortion is now back to each state to decide. The Democratic Party, as the party that supported slavery, now supports abortion on demand, even up to the date of birth. See the New York State Senate applauding and cheering the passage of their “Reproductive Health Act” that allows abortion to date of birth, signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The only recent major Democrat politician to oppose abortion was Pennsylvania Governor Bob Casey, who was barred by the Clintons from speaking at the 1992 Democratic convention. Casey wrote in his autobiography, “Fighting for Life,” Thomas Nelson Inc. 1996, that buttons depicting Casey as the Pope were sold at the convention by abortion supporters. Casey wrote: ”To me, it was simply a case of anti-Catholic bigotry. What was going on here? What had become of the Democratic Party I once knew?” Obviously, this Convention conduct was approved and directed by the Clintons: Bubba and Crooked Hillary.

But it is more than simply anti-Catholic bigotry. It is the major litmus test for the Democratic Party. Democrats, including “Catholics” like Mario and Andrew Cuomo, Teddy Kennedy, Pelosi, Biden, and others, and “Christian” ministers such as Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, who use this to win elections by scaring voters, primarily women. They do not care that over sixty three million unborn children have been killed since 1973. They are not troubled by morality or ethics but care only about power and winning elections.

In conclusion, do we “talk” about abortion honestly that it stops a beating human heart by killing a defenseless unborn child, or do we dance around it by calling it “reproductive rights” to win elections, as if a person has the right to kill an unborn child? But if you talk honestly about it, you will probably lose elections until there is a change in our culture regarding abortion.

President’s Trump would allow abortion in cases of rape, incest, and health of the mother. But “health of the mother” is general enough to allow many abortions so there must be some clarity in its meaning. At least if you cannot eliminate all killing of the unborn you can reduce the number killed.

The political dilemma is if you oppose abortion at all stages then Democrats will win state elections which means that more states will allow abortions to the day of birth, as in New York, and Democrats will also use the issue in Congressional and Presidential elections.

In this talk about abortion, the missing voice is the voice of the unborn.
