You can fool some of the sheeple some of the time, most of the democrats most of the time, but at some point, common sense-which ain’t so common anymore-is going to prevail (one can only hope-and it is not a plan!)
The path to election 2024 should disturb and bother all Americans as we have a democrat candidate who never received a single vote throughout a very long and chaotic primary campaign where candidates out of favor with the party were shunned, kept off the ballot and finally resulted in the removal of the leading candidate who had been voted as the party selection.
Meanwhile the near unanimous GOP opposition leader has been subject to unchecked administration lawfare where our government has deliberately interfered in the 2024 election by going after the opposition candidate like some 3d world country where anything goes.
I don’t know if we have reached a Malcolm Gladwell Tipping Point on this BS yet. “A Ha” moments are unpredictable, often subtle and seemingly-relatively-innocuous. Out of a clear blue sky some US Army Infantry Major is supposedly interviewed and “quoted” in the shadow of a burning South Vietnamese village, and he states that “We had to burn down the village to save it.”
Uttered in the context of an operation undertaken to drive out the Vietcong (VC) which held the village hostage, killed military age males who would not join the cause, who confiscated all goods, services and animals, launched attacks on US forces from the relative safety of a “pacified village,” it made total sense.
A new village could be built within a week, although many hamlets were “strategically” relocated to less vulnerable sites out of reach of the elusive VC who melted in and out of the jungle like morning mist.
Viewed in John Q Public’s living room on the 6 O’clock nightly news in mainstream America, presented by iconic “storyteller” Walter Cronkite, this became a universal “A Ha” moment for America, particularly in conjunction with the North Vietnamese somewhat final and desperate action that became a propaganda coup, the Tet Offensive: what the hell were we doing in this godforsaken place that nobody could find on a map?
Like all things Vietnam-where disputes linger over almost any and all aspects-this quote is also in dispute. The Major insisted his comment was that it was a “shame the village was destroyed,” but like many political tropes it was-and is-too good to throw out…when you get a good one you can’t let facts get in the way of a narrative-like “Hands up, don’t shoot” and the “murder by police during the arrest of a drug addict overdosing on fentanyl while passing counterfeit money.”
A groundswell of public opinion against the “war” ensued that exposed Lyndon Johnson’s Vietnam strategy as a total disaster with no end in sight, resulting in him not seeking re-election and retiring from public view a broken and bitter man.
That’s not to portray US involvement in Vietnam as “cut and dry” or to insinuate there is any consensus on any part of it other than recognition that it was a mistake, well documented in Barbara Tuchman’s work “The March of Folly.”
It’s been nearly 50 years since we executed Kissinger’s BS “peace with honor,” which was more like Monty Python’s strategic retreat (“Run Away.”)
For those tempted to wade into the history, the first decade of our “somewhat” involvement starting in Paris post WWII with treaty discussions with Ho Chi Minh and the fate of France in Indochina, up through the victory over France in in 1954, through the Eisenhower years (“no white man will ever win a war in Indochina”: or words to that effect) is a very good place to start. Particularly for those wondering how we went from Eisenhower’s view to half a million soldiers on the ground and over 58K casualties before we were done.
The US spent the better part of three decades throwing our money and youth at defending a concept in Indochina which turned out to be problematic and dubious-but not my topic for today.
Oh, those clever and scheming democrats. In the midst of all the hoopla and over the top rhetoric about the danger to democracy a second presidency would represent if Donald Trump emerges victorious-I guess, as evidenced by all the terrible things he did to democracy the first time around-they managed to undermine the entire show and pageantry engineered to anoint the democrat primary winner and install somebody who never received a single vote.
They basically did a quick presto-chango-sleight of hand-reorder of the lemming’s maneuver in the dead of night and orchestrated a coup on their presidential nominee and just continued to march as if everything was normal-all systems go-nothing to see here…
Much like the above analogy to Vietnam, here we are in technology times, overburdened by information technology, distracted by artificial intelligence (AI,) deep fakes, the 24×7 365 news cycle and out of nowhere the dems produce a strategy right out of the playbook harkening back to what saddled JFK with a hillbilly crook from Austin Texas who would prove to be a nightmare production, courtesy of the back, proverbial smoke-filled room of six or more decades ago and -viola-we have a new ticket: all hale (and shush!)
They are betting the same sheeple who bought all the lies from their anointed “heroes” over the years-like the story about Monica Lewinsky-and then pivoted gracefully to the “its a personal matter defense” in the wake of the ultimate inconvenience of the “gotchya” Blue Dress, a party that later crashed the economy with the Dodd-Frank housing “Let’s make a deal plan,” to those happy to see the “Oceans stop rising,” be blessed with “hope and change,” able to “keep their doctor, keep their plan, save $2400” from Prince Obama (an utterance-repeated 10K times-by a man who called Trump a carnival barker and equated the danger of LTG Michael Flynn, US Army (Ret)-who refused to stop saying Radical Islamic Fundamentalist Extremists-as on a par with a despotic maniac in N Korea saber rattling nuclear weapons,)) at a time when it had not occurred to anybody that they might lose their doctor, lose their plan and not save $2400 (without government help.)
And please ignore the unmitigated disastrous foreign policy that cost Crimea, cast Ukraine into a decade of fear and eventually death and destruction, made Libya an ungoverned mess these last 12 years, reshaped the Middle East throughout the Arab Spring, delivering the Muslim Brotherhood to power in Egypt (Clapper’s “mostly secular and an administrative organization,“) and eventually the dreaded outcome of military rule.
Rearmed Hamas and Hezbollah and worked with the moderates in the modern “Death to America and Israel” Iranian state, watched Syria use chemical weapons on their own citizens and drew a red or somewhat pink line that turned out to be a “Global line” culminate in inviting the Russians back into the Middle East as “peace makers”-putting US diplomacy in the hands of “bolt-neck Kerry” on the sidelines leading from behind: none of this was bad, in fact, it was “scandal-free!”
But suddenly they united behind the idea of utter hatred for one of the democrats staunchest fund raiser and funder over the years and bought into a Russia collusion and Pee Pee tape hoax. And then cheated to be saved from suffering “mean tweets” in favor of one of the worst presidential candidates in modern history.
A man who ran from his basement-who was described by one of the few government civil servants of our lifetimes who is respected and has served both sides or the aisle-Robert Gates-as a “terrible politician who has been wrong on every foreign policy decision for four decades.”
We can now update that statement to five decades. The president that Biden served for 8 years described him in unflattering terms, stating that you should “never underestimate Joe’s ability to fxxx things up.” He did not/would not support Biden in 2016.
But Biden was suffering the loss of his son and Hillary Clinton had the “goods” on Obama and made it clear she was not going down alone if her classified document violations resulting from her use of an illegal server in violation of her oath of office and clearance obligations under USC 18 did not go away…
Biden did not disappoint! He and his vice president Harris have overseen one of the most disastrous periods in American history by any measure one would care to assess. They oversaw and allowed-facilitated-unmitigated disasters across the landscape too numerous to go through in one article or a series (see my Globalist Folly Back In Season In The Swamp-26 parts and counting.)
The amazing thing is that these same sheeple and rubes who showed up in the primary for him and bought into the narrative that his problems really stemmed from hateful republicans and their failure to support his “programs,” have turned on a dime and lopped up like winter soup this latest iteration of “We the glorious leaders” will handle this mess and crisis that we created to save our arses: and they are-sadly-probably right.
You notice I did not cover any of the hate for Bush that begat Obama, mostly over Iraq-which was richly deserved-it is too easy to write that new chapter in the reprise of the March of Folly-one of the dumbest, ill-thought through decisions in American history (and that covers a lot of ground-and it is challenged by Obama’s foolishness in Ukraine and the Middle East,) mitigated to a great degree by congress supporting the stupidity that achieved Colin Powell’s dire warning: “if you break it, you own it…” and we did and we do.
Not to stretch my Vietnam analogy beyond tensile strength, but it bears merit pointing out how democrats have “Agent Oranged” any centrists from the party-from middle-left to middle right, best exemplified by folks like Joe Lieberman in 2006, who had to run as a libertarian or independent to get re-elected to the senate after losing in the democrat primary-and this after being on the democrat ticket for the White House with partner Al Gore in 2000.
But times and sentiment change and his comments about candidate Obama ruffled feathers among a party desperate to win at all costs and replace Bush. His commentary to the 2008 GOP Convention in support of a McCain presidency was particularly abhorrent to many democrats, but it bears revisiting: from the piece…
He was an enthusiastic backer of McCain in the 2008 presidential contest, and his speech at the 2008 GOP presidential nominating convention criticizing Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, struck a deep nerve.
Lieberman cast Obama as a political show horse, a lightweight with a thin record of accomplishment in the Senate despite his soaring eloquence as a speaker.
“In the Senate, during the 3 1/2 years that Sen. Obama has been a member, he has not reached across party lines to … accomplish anything significant, nor has he been willing to take on powerful interest groups in the Democratic Party to get something done,” Lieberman said at the convention.
“Eloquence is no substitute for a record,” he said.
Indeed. Period. As Obama himself would state to the vanquished McCain, “elections have consequences.”
What could have been-but the GOP entitlement formula for presidential candidates would saddle the party with three somewhat “impossible to elect” choices as candidates over more than two decades, including Bob Dole, McCain, and Mitt Romney.
Political faction”ism” can be a gateway drug. One minute you are supporting a plank that is straight forward and specific, in the next you are supporting a “safe, legal and rare” feel good bumper sticker, that results in signing-up to 30M deaths, the rare has been dropped and you must support “woman’s health choices” that include “decision after birth” or you will have no seat at the table.
Or your candidate can be somewhat of a “smush,” mealy mouthed defender of marriage being between a man and a woman “in his religion,” and then have the US Govt not show up to defend the concept in federal court: that rat basswich…
It can also be an antidote-counter-or excuse that undermines integrity, ethics and common sense, as evidenced by many of the “as yet unspecified” 2024 democrat playbook/platform where American law described illegal aliens have been recast as some variation of migrants, where the delusional continue to tout a constitutional right to kill children, where mentally unbalanced dysphoric men can compete with woman-use the wrong bathrooms, bring lawsuits for being misgendered, where our only true friend and ally in the middle east-Israel-is an impediment to peace with Muslim terrorists whose idea of peace is missile launches and a “one state solution,” and every day there is something in the news that makes one wonder what planet we are on.
The democrats had to destroy democracy to save it from the Bad Orange Man, because if he wins this election, he is going to-well-destroy democracy!
“Living in America….” You can’t make this schtuff up…
