An Open Letter To Vice President Dick Cheney

You are the one voting for the actual threat to our republic Sir, not I.

Vice President Cheney, you recently announced you will vote for Democratic nominee and current Vice President Kamila Harris. That is your right sir, even as a lifelong Republican. As a fellow lifelong Republican, please leave the GOP now. Ronald Reagan famously said of the Democrats, “I didn’t leave the party, the party left me.” You sir have left the party, not the other way around.

“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump. He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. He can never be trusted with power again.

As citizens, we each have a duty to put country above partisanship to defend our Constitution. That is why I will be casting my vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.”

“Greater threat to our republic?” Hyperbole to say the leave sir. Mr. Vice President, I would remind you of a Civil War from 1861 to 1865 where five percent of our population died defending our republic from dissolution. Don’t forget our first vice president and second president, John Adams. He used the Alien and Sedition Act to jail political opponents and hostile journalists. Could that happen today?

Our current vice-president and Democratic nominee has openly said Twitter (before it was rescued by Elon Musk) should censor political speech she finds objectionable. In 2019, then Senator Harris said in an interview corporations and governments have the power to regulate political speech (emphasis mine):

JAKE TAPPER, CNN HOST: I know you wrote to Twitter and the CEO Jack Dorsey and asked him to take away the president’s Twitter handle, his account.

How is that not a violation of free speech? I mean, the president has the same rights that you have, that I have, and how would that not just be a slippery slope where they have to ban — you know, half of the people on Twitter?

SEN. KAMALA HARRIS (D-CA): I’ve heard that argument, but here’s the thing Jake. First of all, a corporation — which is what Twitter is, does not have the — it has obligations, and in this case Twitter has terms of use policy. And their terms of use dictate who receives the privilege of speaking on that platform and who does not…

Sounds like then Senator Harris wants then President Trump’s access to the new town square, Twitter/X, to censor speech she disagrees with. The First Amendment was specifically written to protect political speech. I wonder if the then senator, who supported Twitter’s suspension of President Trump’s account, was worried Mr. Dorsey allowed the mullahs in Tehran to tweet without restriction? But Trump is the threat?

“Tried to steal the election usings lies and violence?” Mr. Vice President, do you recall a man named Al Gore? Your immediate predecessor as vice president? How he tried to steal the 2000 election in Florida and circumvent the US Constitution? Don’t forget countless radicals in this country begged the Electoral College members to vote against their elected candidate for president. That sounds like a threat to our republic Mr. Vice President.

“Violence?” Mr. Vice President, the woman you announced support for openly championed BLM terrorists as they destroyed billions of dollars of property in our cities and caused dozens of deaths. She then asked people to fund bail of these criminals, at least one of whom went out and committed another murder. Vice President Harris has allowed an invasion of this country and approximately ten million illegal aliens have entered. Countess numbers of them have committed felonies against our citizens.

We have no idea who these people are, but Democratic (and some RINOs) response was another amnesty bill what would have legalized the criminal Biden-Harris “catch and release” policy. Pass that and we will have tens of millions of more illegal aliens entering the country. Give them the vote, you flip Texas and Florida, and a Republican will never be elected president again. Yes, the United States of America will become a one-party banana republic.

Don’t forget sir, one of the stated goals of the Democratic party is to eliminate the Electoral College, which was put in, for among other reasons, to insure largely populated areas did not override the input of smaller states. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want the populations of twenty large cities (e.g., New York, Los Angeles, Chicago) to elect one third of our government every four years.

And you call Donald Trump, to paraphrase your letter, “the greatest threat to our republic?”

By the way, does this sound familiar, “I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You have released the whirlwind and you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” You should remember the Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer threatening two sitting Supreme Court justices? A leader of one branch of the government threatens senior members of a co-equal branch. Is that a “threat to our republic sir?”

Mr. Vice President, one of the things I do admire about President Trump (and two of his predecessors, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush) is they campaigned on certain items and upon reaching Washington, at least tried to achieve them. Reagan was tax cuts and defense, Bush the economy, Trump the border and the economy. President Trump did more to secure the border in one term than I’ve seen any government do in my almost sixty years on this earth.

Was Donald Trump my choice in 2016, no (I would have preferred Ted Cruz, Scott Walker or Rand Paul). This election I would have chosen Governor Ron DeSantis. Besides being right on the issues and more disciplined than President Trump, he would not automatically be a lame duck.

But you are embracing the abyss Mr. Cheney. In far too many elections the GOP establishment has presented to the American voter this “choice,” “The Democrats will drive the country off the cliff in fifth gear. We’ll do it in first. How does that sound?” Like a disaster Mr. Vice President. Unlike you and your daughter, we know the Democratic Party has been taken over by the greatest threat to republic, their socialist-communist wing. It must be destroyed to be rebuilt into a legitimate political party again. I don’t see that happening in my lifetime. If “Republicans” like Liz Cheney are leading our party, it will never happen.

To borrow the words of the greatest president in my lifetime,

“Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn’t pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children’s children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”

Mr. Cheney, follow your friend Max Boot’s example and register as an independent. Your time is past and we need leadership to insure our “children and our children’s children live in a United States where men were free.”
