Alright, so you’ve realized that modern politics is basically an elaborate scam designed to keep you outraged, afraid, and blindly devoted to people who don’t care about you. Now what? How do you break free from the insanity before you end up tattooing a politician’s face on your chest?
Step One: Accept That No Politician Is Your Savior. This is the hardest pill to swallow, especially if you’ve emotionally invested in a particular leader. But repeat after me: Trump is not the Messiah. Obama was not the Messiah. No politician is going to “save” America. They are flawed human beings doing a job, and like everyone else, they lie, screw up, and make self-serving decisions. Stop treating them like religious figures, and start treating them like employees.
Step Two: Turn Off the Rage Machine. The media and social media thrive on keeping you in a constant state of emotional agitation. Do yourself a favor—log out. Stop doom-scrolling, stop engaging with political trolls, and stop letting talking heads on TV dictate how you feel about your life. The world is not ending. You are just being manipulated.
Step Three: Prioritize Truth Over Tribe. This is the real test. Can you call out your own side when they lie? Can you admit when your guy does something wrong? If you can’t, then congratulations, you’re just as brainwashed as the people you mock. The moment your loyalty to a party or politician overrides your commitment to truth, you’ve lost.
Step Four: Be a Person, Not a Pawn. Real life is not Twitter. Most people—Republicans, Democrats, independents—just want to live their lives in peace. Stop treating politics like a team sport where the goal is to “own” the other side. Build real relationships. Have real conversations. Stop being a caricature.
At the end of the day, if you’re more devoted to a politician than to truth, you’ve already lost. The only way to truly win is to wake up, step back, and remember that no man, no party, and no ideology deserves your soul. If you give it away, don’t be surprised when you wake up one day and realize that you’ve become the very thing you once hated.
