Without a motive to endeavor, be it profit, glory, or other recognition, society will stagnate. Then collapse.
A couple weeks back I posted A Lack Of Rationality, discussing how liberals lack reasonableness and simple dialogs can be difficult. For example, this meme from a friend of many of the writers on this website.

Under “REALITY,” someone “gets” more than is needed, in the creator’s way of “thinking.” OK, how did they “get” this extra whatever it is, be it money or other resource? I’ve known multiple millionaires (and I’ve met a few billionaires) and none of them “get” what they want from just laying around. Some do have some advantages setting out. Donald Trump did inherit a multi-million-dollar real estate business from his father. His work turned it into a multi-billion-dollar business.
Sam Walton had one variety store and turned it into the largest retailer on Earth. Jeff Bedoz created a web site to buy books from and today it’s the largest online merchant in the world. At the age of 31, Elon Musk sold PayPal and had almost 200 million in the bank. He didn’t retire but founded multiple businesses including SpaceX. Musk’s rocket company recently retrieved two stranded astronauts that Joe Biden “forgot” were up there. He will likely push us back to the Moon and beyond. By the end of the decade Musk will likely be the first trillionaire in history.
The point? People don’t “get” things, they work for them. They create products, businesses, wealth, and people engage in commerce. In the process, these people acquire wealth, and create wealth and opportunities for others. There is nothing evil about the process.
“EQUALITY” means everyone “gets” the same, in spite of capabilities, effort, or desire. In other words, kill any motivation to improve. Countless people heard the story of a college student asking her father about people living in poverty. “Dad, why can’t they have more? Why can’t people just give up some to help the ‘less fortunate’ (always ‘fortunate’).” Dad answers, “Well, you have all “As” right?” The young lady answers, “Yes.” Dad asks, “Well your friend Julia only has a 3.0 average, why don’t you give up some of your grades to help her average? You can both be equal, have 3.5s.” The daughter is distressed, “What? I’ve worked myself hard to get those grades, and Julia stays out late and parties. Why should I suffer for her poor choices?”
Dad smiles at his daughter, “Welcome to life.” Point made, if there is no benefit for hard work, or risk, no one will push the envelope. Most will be content to sit with what they “get” and nothing advances.
“EQUITY” is where everyone “gets the support they need.” OK, who determines what is needed? If I disagree with what you say I need, are you required to give me more? Remember, some pigs are more equal than others (does Barrack Obama need three mansions?) . And if they take the “support” they “get” and squander it, are we obliged to “get” them more? If the “support” is given without risk or cost, why should they value it?
Sound absurd? We’ve had generations of people living in public housing, destroying what they “get” from taxpayers, just to be rebuilt. Why not, they have nothing invested in it. I’ve patrolled multiple public housing projects in Houston over the years. I can’t tell you how many times I see two or three generations in the same projects. They were born there, they grow up there, they “live” there as adults. And they will die there. As the process continues, getting out to a better life is harder. You “get” what you need, right? Why push to “get” more?
“JUSTICE” is what I find most curious. “The cause (s) of the inequity were addressed.” For whom? You don’t need to see a game, but the owner of the venue is suffering “inequity.” He’s the one who is paying to provide the game, the cost of the utilities, etc. If I can just stand in the field and watch the game, why buy a ticket? Why is anyone in the stadium seats? I can bring a six-pack and watch the game in the field. Hell, why should one go out for the team? I “get” as much as the rest, don’t have to practice, try to win. I can sit and enjoy everything, right?
Without the profit motive, nothing will happen. The game will never happen, because no one will try to organize teams. A venue owner will never set up the stadium (why bother). One can just be stagnant, “getting” just enough to stay in a state of “equity,” until needed at the voting booth.
Just like liberals like it.
