First Cigarettes, Now Tabasco: The Army’s Great Taste Purge

Once upon a time, the Army understood two things every Soldier needed in the field: nicotine and fire. Cigarettes were standard in rations for decades—until 1975, when someone in a suit decided “health concerns” mattered more than morale. Fine. Soldiers adapted.

Tabasco. MRE Mini

But now, decades later, the Army has struck another blow to the taste buds: Tabasco sauce. Those little glass bottles that added a spark to cold MRE stew? Mostly gone. Replaced by sad ketchup-style packets. And soon, even powdered hot sauce is coming—because apparently, flavor is now a casualty of bureaucracy.

It’s almost poetic. First, they strip away your smoke breaks, and now they’re gutting the one thing that made field chow edible. Morale? Who needs it. Taste? Overrated. The Army has officially gone to sh*t, one ration at a time. If the next step is flavored cardboard, I won’t be surprised
