My Father’s Father

MY FATHER’S FATHER LIVED AND DIED

IN THIS, OUR BLESSED LAND

HE TOOK HIS CHANCES, MADE HIS WAY,

WAS THERE TO LEND A HAND

HE OWNED HIS HOME, SPOKE HIS MIND

LET CHIPS FALL WHERE THEY MAY

HE WORKED ALL DAY, SLEPT WELL AT NIGHT

WITH LITTLE TIME FOR PLAY

HE DEALT WITH WHOM HE TRUSTED

AND TURNED AWAY THE REST

EXCELLENCE WAS WHAT HE LOVED

TO THAT HE GAVE HIS BEST

HIS LOSSES AND REVERSALS

HE ACCEPTED WHEN THEY CAME

HE NEVER TOOK THE EASY WAY

IF IT WOULD HARM HIS NAME

THIS STRONG MAN BUILT A FAMILY

YET WAS NOT TOO PROUD TO PRAY

GRANDPA, I REJOICE YOU CANNOT SEE

OUR COUNTRY OF TODAY
