Muslims (25% of world): They don’t deny the miraculous birth of Jesus and that he was a prophet, but they reject the belief that he was G-d in a human body. Muslims worship the same G-d as Hebrews, but trace their linage to Abraham through Hagar, his wife’s servant. Mohammad, the founder of Islam, is their descendent.
Jews (aka Hebrews): Though they accept the existence of Jesus, the prophet, they see themselves as the direct heirs of the covenant God made with Abraham. Jews/Hebrews believe this bond is eternal and binding; it is not superseded or replaced. From a Jewish perspective, Christianity is a separate religion that emerged and diverged with the birth of Jesus. Only .2% of the world’s population.
Christians (30%) They are Hebrews inasmuch as they also trace their lineage to Abraham and his wife, Sarah, through Jacob and Issac. Though the Old Testament does not contain any promise from G-d to deliver a Messiah or an agent, they believe Jesus is the Son of G-d.
For a non-Christian to wish someone a Merry Christmas, or vice-versa, doesn’t necessarily carry any religious connotation, but it does mean they hope you have a happy 25th of December.
