Last two weeks, I’ve noticed a few things I did vote for. Let’s keep it going.
I won’t work and you can’t make me.
Satirical motto of the civil service.
This motto is a joke I was told ages ago. Like when Archie Bunker said on All in the Family, “Civil service is like the Mob. Once you in, you’re in for life.” But things are getting a bit insecure for select federal employees. And yes, I voted for this.
Trump signs order moving thousands of federal employees into Schedule F
President Trump on Wednesday signed an executive order formally converting nearly 10,000 career federal workers into Schedule Policy/Career, making them effectively at-will employees.
The edict marks the culmination of a years-long push to make it easier to fire federal employees in “policy-related” jobs by removing them from the federal government’s competitive service and placing them in a new job category…referred to as Schedule Policy/Career. Employees placed into the new schedule would no longer be able to challenge adverse personnel actions before the Merit Systems Protection Board, and whistleblower complaints filed by Schedule F employees would be investigated by their own agency, rather than the Office of Special Counsel…
…The official said the vast majority — around 97% — of those impacted are either GS-15s or senior leaders (SL). Jobs targeted for conversion include agency office and division heads; C-suite posts like chief information officers; regional officers and their deputies and chiefs of staff; program managers; those who help write federal regulations and attorneys involved in crafting agency or internal policies, as well as advisors, senior HR officials and grantmaking posts…
No, these are not the clerks at the Social Security office telling you how to get signed up for disability benefits. These are senior officials dealing with policy, budget, etc. They may not be the subject matter experts, but they sign final documents. Important people. People who need to be accountable, and yes, removable.
Is that too harsh a standard? I would say not. These are all officials of the Executive Branch, which has at the top the President. Many authors on this site are retired military officers. We each have a document that says, in part, “this commission is to continue in force during the pleasure of the President.”
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the real world. You want to play the big game, fine. Understand, it’s not guaranteed. Perform, or perish. You want security, work as a clerk in a Department of Agriculture in Missouri.
Next, I noticed this from one of my favorite web sites, Legal Insurrection. I really like and admire our FBI Director Nash Patel.
Patel Fires Five Tied to Anti-Catholic FBI Memo
Five FBI employees tied to the bureau’s 2023 “Radical Traditionalist Catholics” memo were fired Friday, according to multiple reports. The four intelligence analysts and one supervisory analyst involved in drafting and approving the document had faced no discipline since the memo became public more than three years ago (emphasis mine)…
The Richmond Field Office produced the memo in January 2023. It examined what it described as a possible connection between “Radical Traditionalist Catholic” ideology and racially and ethnically motivated violent extremists, and discussed potential “tripwire and source development” opportunities within Catholic communities…
…Then-Attorney General Merrick Garland later told lawmakers he was “appalled” by the memo, while Wray repeatedly insisted the memo came from a single field office and was withdrawn once senior leadership saw it.
I’m not surprised Mr. Garland took no action against the people who produced this memo. Narcotics and human traffickers, an invasion over our open southern border, ANTIFA/BLM rioters, that was no issue. Catholic’s organizing for protest against radical school boards or other tax paying citizens exercising their rights, that is what the O’Biden regime was worried about.
Government officials actually being held to account for malfeasance in office. What a concept.
Finally, the Sanctuary State of New Jersey had a come to Jesus moment. Rioters were interfering with ICE operations at the Delany Hall detention facility. Governor Mikie Sherrill initially refused to use the State Police to quell a riot on her streets. However, her “sanctuary state” status changed when DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin explained to her if she did not, he would pull CBP personnel from Newark International Airport. Anyone arriving from outside the US would be unable to enter. From Yahoo.com:
As anti-ICE protests resume, Sherrill defends NJ police use of force
As groups of ICE supporters and anti-ICE protesters faced off outside the Delaney Hall detention center in Newark on Saturday, May 30, Gov. Mikie Sherrill defended the actions of New Jersey State Police in riot gear and on horses who used force Friday night to disperse anti-ICE protesters outside the facility.
The confrontation came after Sherrill sent in state police to take over public safety duties from federal officers who had previously clashed violently with protesters. Sherrill had sent the state police to keep protesters in a fenced-off “protest zone.”
“My top priority is keeping New Jerseyans and our communities safe — and an increased ICE surge in the area outside of Delaney Hall is a threat to public safety,” Sherrill said in a May 30 statement. “We know that lives would be at risk were that to happen. And I will not accept that risk.”
In the immortal words of Dr. Evil, Riiiiight. No governor, you were actually called out for your lack of action. You allowed criminals, many from out of state, to take control of some of your streets. You would be glad to see it continue except for Secretary Mullin threatening to close down a major airport at the beginning of the summer travel season. Glad you saw the light governor. You went through what we call reality therapy.
The government’s bureaucracy is being trimmed and reformed. Bureaucrats who’ve abused their position are being terminated. And state officials are getting a refresher on federalism. Yes, I voted for that. Hopefully this continues on past January 2029.
