I’m not expecting the GOP leadership to be perfect. But I don’t want them trying to pick state nominees and then supporting Democrats.
As I recall it was 2012 when I received a campaign fundraising letter for the Republican National Committee (RNC). It had the signature of the sitting Speaker of the House, John Boehner (Drunk-Ohio). I know, the fundraising company just used his name and signature, but I already had enough. Drunk Johnny had just surrendered on Obamacare, and reportedly his only concern was ensuring his staff would not be subject to it. Thanks John.
I sent the entire fundraiser back to Boehner’s office at the capital. I told him to purge my information from the RNC, never contact me again, and reminded him he’s worth less than a Democrat. At least they honestly stab their voters in the back (if you like your plan…). I reminded him the House was more than “one half of one third of the government.” The House controls the budget, and it’s for items other than his alcohol expenses. He could use that against Obama, but he was not interested. So, I’m not interested in supporting the RNC.
I signed off with this comment, “It amazes me, of seven million sperm you’re the one who lived.”
Can we say much has changed since? No. I, like 887, 000 other voters in Texas, voted to nominate Attorney General Ken Paxton for senate in the May primary election. The four term incumbent, John Cornyn RINO-TX, got just over a half million votes, or 36% of the total. Yes, a four-term incumbent lost that badly, after (reportedly with dark money) over 200 million spent. It should serve as an example of how to get rid of these Old Bulls who differences with the Democrats is in degree, not kind.
Ken Paxton went into July with just over 2 million in the bank. His opponent Jimmy “Six Genders” Talarico is holding 22 million, mostly from New York and California. That is after Six Genders spent 28 million on ad buys. Thankfully President Trump headlined a fundraiser for him in Houston last week, and Paxton has two more fundraisers scheduled in September.
Full disclosure, I’ve voted multiple times for Paxton as Attorney General, I voted for him in the primary and will vote for him in November. I’ve also made multiple contributions to his campaigns.
Now why is it Paxton has to work so hard to keep himself afloat? The National Republican Senatorial Committee is there to help him win, right? No.
From their website, the NRSC “is solely devoted to strengthening the Republican Senate Majority and electing Republicans to the United States Senate.” It would seem logical that they would support Republican senatorial candidates. No, they do not.
The NRSC spent over 100 million dollars supporting John Cornyn in the primary election against Ken Paxton. For that 100 million the NRSC got…nothing. As I’m writing this, the NRSC has not donated a dime to the Paxton campaign. The NRSC is not there to elect Republican senators, but RINO senators.
The debacle is not the first example of the NRSC making the wrong choice. In 2010 the TEA Party was on a roll, and the Florida Speaker of the House, Marco Rubio, took on the sitting RINO, Charlie Crist. The NRSC spent tens of millions on Crist, with the support of John McCain and Mitch McConnel. And for this money what did we get?
Crist lost the primary to Rubio. He should have respected the choice of the voters but decided to run “nonparty affiliated.” After losing to Rubio, Crist switched parties, endorsed and campaigned for Obama in 2012, and ran for the senate as a Democrat later.
You wasted millions of dollars on a Democrat. Thanks guys.
In multiple posts I’ve announced the fall of the House of Bush. Unfortunately, it’s not completely dead. While Paxton is ratcheting up his fundraising, former President Bush, soon to be ex-senator (thank you God!) Cornyn and Karl Rove are hosting fundraisers this week in two Texas cities. Are they raising cash for the Republican senate nominee, Ken Paxton? No. How about Republicans running in Texas? No.
Everyone but Texas. They will be hitting up high end Texas donors to support Senator Susan Collins R-ME, Ashley Hinton R-IA John Husted R-OH, John Sununu R-NH, and Sullivan Rogers (R-MI). Why are these men drawing funds from Texas sources to support other state candidates? I think we know the reason.
The RINO GOP leadership is concerned losing their power over the party. They have gotten very comfortable going to DC and doing…nothing. They are very happy making promises to get the border secured, spending under control, etc. Then they go to DC and collude with the Democrats over everything. Bob Dole’s famously said his job was to “make a deal.” No sir, your job is to represent your state and stop the destruction caused by the Democrats.
I doubt Bush or Cornyn will lose a night’s sleep if (and I don’t see this happening) Six Genders Jimmy wins. Karl Rove sees the MAGA movement as a tool for getting votes, not an actual movement for change.
Far from perfect, the MAGA movement has shown you can actually keep campaign promises and make change. For decades President Bush (and others) said the border could not be secured without “comprehensive immigration reform.” With nothing like amnesty, it is secure now, and we are in the largest deportation operation since the Eisenhower years. We are actually cutting the federal bureaucracy, and it’s not even two years into Trump’s term. I call that positive change. That is the last thing Bush and Rove want.
What has to happen now? First, donate directly to your candidate, do not give the RNC or NRSC a dime. If they send you a letter in the mail, send it back. Tell them to never contact you again as you don’t appreciate them trying to pick your nominee. The national committees are there to get Republicans elected in the general election. They need to be reminded of that in the most painful way possible. The bank account.
Then Vote! Vote! Vote! Get everyone you know of who votes Republican to the polls. Most states have early voting (Texas has two weeks before “election day”), so vote early. Make sure you get there early because Democrats are famous for tricks such as ballots arriving late. No joke, in 2022 Harris County TX (Houston), several voting precincts didn’t get ballots delivered till late evening, so people had to wait hours. Some couldn’t stay and were not able to vote. You will be “shocked” to know all the precincts without ballots were Republican dominated.
Finally, and this will take years, we need to purge the party leadership of the RINOs. We will always have, to a degree, collaborators in our ranks. We can’t fully eliminate them, but we can shrink their influence. We need more Ted Cruz’s and Rick Scott’s, fewer McConnell’s, Trent Lott’s and Bob Doles. There is one way to do that, which is the current form of term limit. Elections. Does it work? Ask soon to be ex-senator Bill Cassidy of Louisiana and soon to be ex-senator John Cornyn of Texas.
