Parody As a Weapon Part XXX: When the State of the Union is in a State of ConfusionParody As a Weapon Part XXX: When the State of the Union is in a State of Confusion
Last week, in Part XXIX, we remained once again in the realm of song parody, and joined the mob shouting at Vlad the invader from the sidelines while searching for signs of true American leadership that did not show itself. That search will continue this week, as we wander through the realm again, searching for a sign that the US is being led by someone who can rise to the challenges of the occasion.
Unfortunately, the current occupant of the White House failed to make such a showing again, choosing instead to deliver a State of the Union speech this week that continued to display his cognitive impairment (unless an earlier Persian occupation preceded the current Russian invasion) and other bizarre behavior such as headbutting attendees there.
It is ironic that the left has spent the last 40 years trying to portray Ronald Reagan as a cognitively-impaired president, deteriorating as a result of old age, and controlled by others. As they are wont to do, they have actually engaged in the behavior that they’ve accused their enemy (America as founded and those who support it) of doing, and with Biden put forth a nominee who was not only older than Ronald Reagan was when he left office, but who also had a history of poor brain health. Joe Biden has lived up to their expectations, even as he failed America.
In the first year of his presidency Ronald Reagan took a bullet from an attempted assassin, and still had the presence of mind to joke with his emergency room physicians. During the first year or so of the Biden presidency, it is America that feels as if it has had inflicted upon it a gunshot wound, and the Biden cure appears to be a prescription for more punctures with lead projectiles.
Of course, there were challenges to America during the first Reagan term. The Russians were continuing their occupation of a neighboring country that was fighting back vigorously when provided with weapons and aid, and these Soviets further showed their contempt for civilization by shooting down a civilian airliner when it strayed off course and into their airspace. Ronald Reagan’s steady leadership managed to put our country and the world on a path that eventually led to the collapse of the Soviet Union and allowed more folks in the world to breather freer air for a time.
Still, there were those at the time who felt the stress of the era, and committed their feelings to song. The Kinks were a rock and roll group that first came to the attention of US audiences during the British Invasion in the 1960s and continued their string of hits into the next two decades. In 1983, the Kinks released State of Confusion as an anthem regarding the stress of their every day life in this era. As Rush Limbaugh borrowed the tune written by the mother of the child of the Kink’s frontman Ray Davies*, I have borrowed this song to memorialize Joe Biden’s poor performance and cognitive decline at this week’s State of the Union address.
Showed up in a panic,
Like Jill fired the shot gun
He started with headbutting,
And got worse before ‘twas done.
Inflations on the rise,
And gas prices through the roof.
Kamala’s making faces
As Pelosi sits aloof
Joe’s at the state (state)
Of the union (whoa-oaooh).
He’s in a state (state)
Of confusion (whoa-oaooh).
Putin’s in the Ukraine
Whose capital’s Tehran
Or is he there in Kiev,
With the people of Iran.
Electric trains in Pittsburgh
But his words were pretty odd
We weren’t sure if the shout out
Was for Edison or God
Don’t know why he does so bad.
Is it lack of talent or because he’s Hunter’s dad?
Don’t know how he got this way.
He doesn’t know if he’s coming or he’s going,
Can’t cover up ’cause it’s obviously showing.
Joe’s at the state (state)
Of the union (whoa-oaooh).
He’s in a state (state)
Of confusion (whoa-oaooh).
He doesn’t know if he’s coming or he’s going.
Our rivals happy, our allies sad.
We always knew Joe would be this bad,
But he’ll save planet Earth is his biggest delusion,
As Joe staggers ’round in a state of confusion.
Standing in the Chamber
‘Neath the Capitol’s broad dome
He’ll stumble through his words
And go back to his Greenville home
He should’ve stayed at home,
In his basement he could hide.
As those who heard him babble
Know his brain’s completely fried.
Joe’s at the state (state)
Of the union (whoa-oaooh).
He’s in a state (state)
Of confusion (whoa-oaooh).
All of the names that he forgets,
All of his lies about our country’s debts
It gets worse, the older that he gets.
No escape from the state of confusion he’s in.
State of confusion he’s in.
Whoa-oaoaoaooh
- Chrissie Hynde’s 1982 hit with The Pretenders entitled “My City Was Gone” is the bass line that opened each hour of the Rush Limbaugh show, and continues to play for the follow-on hosts Clay Travis and Buck Sexton. In 1983, Chrissie Hynde gave birth to Ray Davies’ child.

Maybe Joey is an evil genius pretending to be a stupid, senile political hack so to intentionally destroy our country by open borders, cancelling oil and gas leases, cancelling the pipeline, driving up gas prices, selling out to China, weakening the military, etc.
He has been a stupid political hack his entire life, but he finally has power to do serious harm
It is possible that Biden can be all of these things (except for the genius part). The ones who are pulling his strings may qualify as geniuses, but they may merely be evil.
