Flying the OODA Loop into the Next Election – Part 4 (Decide)

OODA Loop: Decide

This is part four of a five-part series exploring the tactical planning the Republican party should be doing going into the next two elections. (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)

After observing what our opponent is doing, the next step in the OODA loop is to make a decision. The objective in this stage of the loop is to quickly select actions for ourselves, intended to counter the actions of our opponent and leave us in a superior tactical position.

The Dems have chosen a coalition of diverse special interest groups. As we’ve seen, their coalition has structural cracks which are beginning to open. Perhaps the Republicans could counter that by building a movement of people who are unified by one single identity. If there were only a good name for such and identity. How about “American patriots”? There was a time in this country when being an American was more precious than being a member of any special interest group. Trump was clearly onto something with his MAGA battle cry. He wanted to go back to that time. It’s not about going back to the Jim Crowe south. It’s about returning to a mindset in which Americans are proud of their heritage.

Republicans need to do outreach to young people, women’s groups, and people of color. As Trump used to say on the campaign trail, “What have you got to lose?” Republicans need to expand on that message. Point out that the various intersectionality groups have been used by the leftists, not to provide equality, but to achieve leftist power. Conservatism needs to be the welcoming family where everyone is simply an American (with no hyphens).

Celebrate America unabashedly. It’s depressing to be ashamed of one’s country. It’s energizing to be proud of it. Conservatives need to let everyone know that it’s okay to be proud of America. The leftist message of shame and guilt was always a bunch of crap. Our flag is not a symbol of divisiveness, it is a symbol of unity. We don’t have to compete with each other. By making America prosperous, we will benefit everyone – even the special interests. And we’ll do it without the cracks in the foundation.

We don’t have to agree on everything to be united. We only have to agree on certain core principles.

  • Freedom
  • Property rights
  • Equal treatment under the law (blind justice)

We can debate about everything else.

Republicans need to be the party of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of assembly. After nearly two years of lockdowns and oppression, Americans have come to know what loss of freedoms looks like. They’ve been arrested for attending church, told what they can and can’t talk about (especially on social media), and have had their businesses closed by tyrant wannabe’s. Republican messaging needs to connect those hardships to the objectives of the Democrat party. Americans need to know that Republicans will never take away their voice, their freedom, or their property. Conservatism is a community of debate.

The Republican message needs to be that when Americans work hard, they get to keep what they earn or create. Property rights are the fuel that keeps the engine of commerce running. President “They didn’t create that” never understood that principle. When people are not allowed to keep the fruits of their labor, they stop working. The engine of commerce stops, and everyone’s standard of living collapses. We’re being treated to a lesson about this on a very small scale. COVID protocols and other regulatory restrictions have dis-incentivized Americans from working. At last count, we have over 100 cargo ships languishing off the coast of California waiting to unload. Just a few miles away, store shelves sit empty, waiting for the products on those ships. Are we better off for having discouraged truckers, warehouse workers, and longshoremen from working for the two years?

Many have proposed that Republicans be the party supporting the police. I believe that is the wrong message. Republicans cannot be perceived as supporters of:

  • The cop in Idaho that handcuffed a mother for letting her child play on the playground
  • The police in California that arrested people for attending church services
  • The police in Virginia that arrested a man for protesting at a school board meeting
  • The FBI that deceived a court to target political opponents

A more unifying message is to be the party of “equal treatment under the law.” Thugs who burn buildings face prosecution regardless of their politics. Law enforcement officers who comply with unconstitutional directives face termination. And judges who take political sides (looking at you Emmett Sullivan) face impeachment. When the rules are applied equally, true competition can commence, and everyone benefits.

Although not related to actions taken by Democrats, there is another action that Republicans need to take. They need to expunge the saboteurs in their ranks – the Vichy RINOs. What the Democrats have attempted to do to America is evil. It is pointless to seek compromise with evil, and immoral to try. Yet that is what the Vichy have done. The time to choose is now – and they have chosen comity over patriotism. To move forward, the Republicans need to fix this problem in the primaries next year. The party needs to sponsor primary challengers, and strip any remaining Vichy of their committee assignments.

Republicans need to anticipate that the Dems will use dirty tricks. It is after all, their only core competency. Conservatives will be targeted by the deep state for investigation and audit. Lawfare will be used to keep conservatives off the ballots and challenge final vote counts. The propaganda ministry is going to treat America to an endless stream of unsubstantiated stories about conservative corruption. The Republicans need to have a rapid response system in place to respond to every faux scandal, and a team of lawyers ready to engaged and win at lawfare.

And finally for the fun part. The Republicans should mock the Democrats relentlessly. The Dems have been using Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals against conservatives for years. They’re overdue for some payback. I suggest rule number 5: “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. There is no defense. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also, it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.” The left is already crazy, this will make them absolutely certifiable. Our base will love it, and they’ve made it sooooo easy. The Donald still lives in their heads, and he resides right next to their “stupid” button. Maybe we can get him to press it from time to time.

The final part of the OODA loop is simple (in principle). Act – do it and repeat. Implement the actions chosen, go back to step one (observe) of the loop, and see what changes. Based upon how conditions on the ground change, and how the opposition reacts, plan some new actions and do it all over again. The loop continues until you get behind your opponent and take the shot. In this case, we get two shots. One in November of 2022, and another in November of 2024. Given how exposed they are, two shots should be plenty.

Part 5 of this series will tie all of the pieces together.

  1. John, coincidentally there’s a book that might be relevant here just out. You mentioned Rules For Radicals, and now there’s a “Rules For ANTI-Radicals” to counter it.
