This is the final part of a five-part series exploring the tactical planning the Republican party should be doing going into the next two elections. (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4)
Clearly, I’m not the leader of the Republican party, and there are surely many other valid tactics. But the Republicans would be well advised to pay attention to the:
- Mood of the country
- What the Democrats are doing
- Where the Democrats have exposed vulnerabilities
- Options available to exploit those vulnerabilities for electoral success
There is nothing magical about the OODA loop. It is simply a disciplined way to organize the necessary information as a competitor implements a tactical action plan. The steps of the loop are:
- Observe – Understand the field of play and any changes that have occurred after current actions
- Orient – Assess what our opponent is doing and where they are vulnerable
- Decide – Pick an action among available alternatives
- Act – Perform the action and then repeat the cycle
Observe
Part 2 of this series explored the conditions on the field – the mood of the electorate.
COVID gave America a taste of tyranny on the cheap. Without becoming Cuba, we got a two-year taste of autocratic rule. Democrat governors across the country released their inner dictator and closed churches, businesses, and schools. Many even went so far as to restrict the free movement of Americans. We’ve had a two-year speed date with Marxism. It was not a pleasant experience and Americans aren’t interested in a second date.
Leading up to the 2020 election, the Democrats promised a return to normalcy. They lied. Instead, they broke everything. The border is overrun, international relations are strained, inflation is skyrocketing, Europe is at war, and the supply chain is failing before our eyes. The Evil Party’s response is simply, “Get used to the new normal.”
The “Let’s go Brandon” chants sum up the mood. Americans are pissed. They’ve been telling the Democrats that they’re not happy with the path we’re on. The Democrats have responded with the finger. They are determined to not adjust their tactics for changing environmental conditions. Republicans can and should make them pay for that.
Orient
Part 3 of this series took a look at the actions the Democrats are taking and the vulnerabilities they have exposed.
The Democrats have relied on a coalition of special interest groups to achieve electoral success for years. However, those groups have never really shared common goals or values. Now they are beginning to come into conflict with each other. Fault lines are appearing in the coalition. Conservatives have forecast for years that a civil war within the Democrat party was inevitable. That prophecy seems to be reaching fruition now. The Republicans need to pry on those fault lines with the biggest crowbar they can find, and offer Americans an alternative.
The Evil Party is now unabashedly using the power of the state to crush dissent. The IRS is targeting religious groups and the DoJ is classifying parents as “domestic terrorists.” But bureaucrats are few, and Americans are many. Americans have never accepted subjugation – and are not likely to now.
The Dems are also resorting to lawfare and the deep state to tilt elections. They are attempting to remove Republicans from the ballot and will undoubtedly release bogus investigations on conservatives.
Finally, the Evil Party has teamed with leftist thugs to use intimidation to advance their cause. Americans have witnessed two years of violence and destruction at the hands of BLM and Antifa. The Democrats have demonstrated their support by posting their bail and declining their prosecution. And just as Americans are furious about rising crime, the Evil Party can no longer claim to support law and order. That is a major vulnerability that Republicans can exploit.
Decide
In part four of this series, we explored possible actions the Republicans can take to exploit Democrat weaknesses. Where the Democrats have chosen to build a coalition of special interests with divergent objectives, the Republicans can build a movement of people with shared values and interests. With proper messaging, freedom, property rights, and equal application of the law are principles every American can embrace. There is no need to feel ashamed of being an American. Republicans can undercut Democrat messaging by encouraging all Americans to be proud of who they are.
It’s not all rosy for the Republicans. The continued presence of the Vichy RINOs continues to undermine any strategies or tactics undertaken by their own party. They have chosen to compromise with the Evil party. The Republicans have always sought the reelection of party incumbents. That must stop for the health of the country. The Vichy need to face serious primary challengers – and those challengers need to be supported by the party. If elected, the Vichy should be denied committee assignments by the party until they show that they will behave. No crossing the isle to pass leftist bills, or to support witch hunt investigations (I’m looking at you Liz Cheney).
Republicans need to have a legal and communications rapid response capability to respond to the faux scandals, and defend against attempts to use lawfare to overturn election results.
And finally, it’s time to use Saul Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals, against the radicals themselves. Mock the Democrats relentlessly. It will be fun. It will draw people to our movement. And it will drive them crazy(ier) – and thus more error prone.
Act
The final phase of the loop is to act. Take action, see what happens, adjust fire, and reengage. If the Republicans would just be smart for a change, the Democrats have left the door open to become both the evil and the stupid party – all wrapped up into one losing coalition.
