There Is Something In The Water

Is there something in the water?!? Something is spreading radical liberal ideology around the world, and it is moving faster than COVID at a Democrat fundraiser. Worse, it seems to infect declared Republicans as easily as it does moderates. Is there a cure or a vaccine? There is, but it will not be as easy to administer as a shot in the arm from Moderna or Johnson & Johnson. The only protection from radical liberalism, aka socialism, is a well-rounded, classical education that teaches children and young adults to acquire knowledge of US history, religion, mathematics, government, finance and economics, computers, and human biology and psychology. No one can or should be an expert in all disciplines, but everyone should have some understanding of the basic principles involved in all of them. That is how we ward off the encroaching dangers of socialism.

For a long time, conservatives have wondered why supposedly dedicated small government conservatives go to Washington after being elected to pursue that goal and turn into big government liberals. Worse, it never happens in the reverse. No zealous liberal elected to office has ever decided that the government is overreaching and must be reduced. OTOH, the list of turncoat disappointments on the conservative side is a long one. Just a few from the recent past and present would include George Bush Sr, John McCain, Paul Ryan, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Lisa Murkowski, John Roberts, William Barr, and so on, and so on. It is incredibly frustrating, but quite logical when one realizes that these people have spent their lives steeped in a cauldron of liberal orthodoxy that was drummed into their heads since kindergarten. As adults they may adopt contrary positions to get votes, but once in office they are secure in the knowledge that once they win one election they will likely never lose again. Ergo, once they win, they revert to the value system they really believe in because it was the philosophy they followed since childhood. When they vote for liberal policies, it feels like a long-awaited homecoming.

Of course, to the conservative voters who elected them, it feels like what it is, betrayal. They voted for a fraud and a liar, and now they cannot believe that their candidate is supporting the exact opposite of that for which they voted. Here is the confounding part; once they realize that is what happened, one might expect that conservatives would be incensed and do everything possible to vote the offender out of office at the first opportunity. It does not happen. Time after time, people like Murkowski, McConnell, and Romney give their supporters every reason to start an electoral rebellion and toss them from office, but the voters do not do it. That ensures Romney is just as likely to be re-elected as Chuck Schumer or Nancy Pelosi. We KNOW why Schumer and Pelosi get re-elected, their districts are filled with mindless liberal drones who want more government, more welfare, more illegal immigration, more coddling of criminals, more abortions, and more government control of their lives. It may be stupid, but it IS what the voters want, and sure enough, Pelosi and Schumer give it to them. Conservative voters do not have even that puny justification. THEIR candidates give them exactly what they don’t want!!! Why do they tolerate it?

This is where the education system betrays conservatism and serves liberalism. Conservative voters tolerate the betrayal because far too many of them have no cultural confidence. Despite their best efforts and a firm educational foundation, typically acquired through self-study, life experience and keen common sense, conservative voters doubt their own judgment when they are betrayed. The non-stop stream of left-wing propaganda spewed at them by media, educational institutions, judges, preachers, business leaders, and finally, their own candidates, allows doubt to creep into their minds and they begin to think that they might be wrong. As one successful 65-year-old businessman of my acquaintance said several years ago: “For a long time I saw what the Democrats were pushing, and I thought they were crazy. The folks voting for them were certainly nuts. Now, they have gotten so much of what I thought was crazy put into law, that I am starting to think I am crazy.”

That’s the rub. Conservatives start to follow the loud crowd because they think they are alone. Conservatives think successful multi-millionaire politicians like Romney or McConnell should have the self confidence not to be swayed by specious and fabricated left-wing headlines, but they do not. The institutions where they got their educational, philosophical, and economic beliefs have been usurped by left wing zealots. So, when they hearken back to those days of yore and pay heed to the leaders of the places which built their minds, they are told that the crazy ones are right!!! They do not consult the people who should matter most, their constituents. Meanwhile, their constituents dealing with the same elements of doubt often have no higher cultural authorities to consult who will reliably and confidently support their views either. The primary exceptions to this are devout, church attending fundamentalist Christians, hard core Constitutionalists, and strongly family-oriented people of all backgrounds. Their loyalties to those ties are not easily undermined, and they strongly resist the idea that government should have more and more say in how they run their lives and the lives of their children, relatives and friends, but they are shrinking minorities.

Fifty years ago, public schools supported all those exceptional groups and their beliefs. Now, schools are far more likely to denigrate the central values of each of those groups and elevate groups who are hostile to those beliefs. Oddly enough, almost all the fields of study mentioned in the opening paragraph support traditional American values as the most stable foundation for building a successful, prosperous and peaceful society. History, economics, science, biology, religion, etc., all point toward a law based, capitalistic, democratically run society as being the fairest and most effective way to govern. That fact makes it clear why liberal zealots want to eliminate those courses of study in public elementary education and replace them with classes on how to pleasurably masturbate, same sex parenting, choosing one’s gender, punishing racist America, and why gay sex is an important experience for everyone. Idiots teaching that garbage will have no intellectual impact other than to inculcate mass confusion. Did someone say, “mass confusion”? That calls for major government intervention!!

It’s vicious circle, and a losing one for people and parents devoted to traditional American values. It also one more reason to dismantle public education in the country and let parents decide how best to educate their children. Eliminating the current public education system would mark the beginning of the end of the craziness infecting our nation, but it is not happening yet.
