My grandmother taught me everything I need to know about gambling. It’s not as scandalous as it sounds. It happened in 1972 during a family vacation from Indiana to California. We were two parents, two kids, and one grandmother in a car on a 4,000-mile road trip. Yes, it was like the Chevy Chase movie – but without the grandmother tied on the roof.
We stopped in Reno, Nevada for a bite to eat when Grandma saw a slot machine in the attached casino. She’d never seen one before and decided to give it a try. She put one nickel in, pulled the handle, won 5 bucks, and walked away – teaching my sister and I everything we would ever need to know about gambling. If by any chance you find yourself ahead, walk away. It’s a lesson Joe Biden never learned.
By the end of Barack Obama’s experiment in nationwide community organizing, Joe Biden had spent 44 years in government “service.” Yet he left the Vice Presidency a wealthy man with two mansions. Not bad for a middle-class guy from Scranton, who spent his life in “service” to the country, and who had nothing outside of his government job except a few family members with Chinese, Russian, and Ukrainian connections. That’s the rub. Joe’s finances smell fishier than a Wuhan wet market. He got rich by gambling that he could cash in on his influence, without getting caught – because, you know, he’s smarter than other criminals.
Almost anyone being objective about it understands what Joe has been up to. Mr. “10 percent for the big guy” has been gambling with his life and the lives of his family members in the furtherance of the Biden family influence business. He even bragged to a public audience that he used the power of the Vice Presidency to have an investigation of Burisma stopped. That was a mighty good return on investment for Burisma – which was paying Joe’s son 80 grand per month for a “no show” job.
But nobody paid much attention to old Joe in those days, for one simple reason. He was little more than the court jester in Washington, DC. He would paste on that “crazy uncle” smile and then play the clown with outrageous behavior and offensive comments. It was entertaining. Nobody seemed to care because he was inconsequential. He was nothing but the village idiot – a useful one for the Dems, and not worth much effort for the Republicans.
Had Joe learned the most important rule of gambling – when to walk away – he could have taken his fortune and shuffled off to obscurity in 2016. Everybody would have quickly forgotten about Joe, Jim, Frank, Hunter, and the family shakedown business.
But Joe was a gambler on a winning streak. He needed one more big score. He was like one of those gambling addicts at the native American casinos – determined to blow his whole Social Security check before boarding the bus back to the old folk’s home. He decided to push his luck for a few more years. He ran for the most consequential job in the world, betting that he could keep the con going. Then he hit the jackpot. He won. But was it really a win? Or had he pushed his streak to the point of attracting house security?
He’s on the world stage now holding the security and prosperity of America in his hands. Everyone is paying attention to his antics now. The stakes are too high to look away and play dumb. Just to make sure he has everyone’s attention; he’s calling half of the country fascist extremists on national television. Joe’s even sicking his FBI on his political opponents as if the bureau is his personal Gestapo – which 53 percent of Americans believe it has become. He has created two American factions – the embarrassed and the angry. He’s the train wreck that nobody can look away from. But given his financial shenanigans, he needs people looking the other way.
Now that everybody is scrutinizing Joe, what they’re seeing is not comforting. The Chinese are getting aggressive – even flying a recon aircraft over our country. Yet Joe is more passive to the Chinese than he is to his own countrymen. Meanwhile, his son Hunter is selling paintings for half a million bucks a pop, and has a Chinese businessman as his broker. Nothing suspicious there.
Joe is shipping military arms to Ukraine, whom his son was in business with. Some of those arms have wound up in the hands of our enemies. But the shipments continue. You’ve got to give it to Joe – once bought he stays bought.
Russia downed one of our drones over the Black Sea. Joe’s response was little more than: Dang, accidents happen. Feel free to recover it to see what you can learn.
Now Joe seems determined to keep gambling, and that decision isn’t looking too smart. The Democrats don’t want him to run again because they know he can’t win – otherwise they wouldn’t care. They’ve been hinting that he should retire. But Joe’s still feeling lucky. His brethren in the party are making their hints a bit louder by signaling to the press that it’s okay to start talking about the Biden family – as in “crime family” not “loving family”.
The Republicans want him to run again, but they don’t want him to win again. They’re investigating all things Biden. This time the investigations look serious. Four plus decades in office leaves a lot of evidence lying around – and not just in his garage. Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) has been issuing subpoenas faster than a January 6 investigator. Apparently, he’s hitting paydirt. Comer has been all over the news recently letting the world know that there really is rot causing that foul smell in the White House.
Joe could have cashed in back in 2016 and lived out his days in unearned comfort. Instead, he placed another bet using his reputation and the lives of his relatives as collateral. The machine dials are still spinning and both parties are keeping their fingers crossed – hoping for some combination that will make him leave. He just might go bust this time.

A family of grifters.
Well said.
He needs to be walking away in handcuffs.
“…By the end of Barack Obama’s experiment in nationwide community organizing, Joe Biden had spent 44 years in government ‘service’…”
Just as a minor correction on an otherwise fine article, when Biden left the Naval Observatory vice-presidential residence in January of 2017, he had spent 44 years in federal government “service”, but 46 years in political office, as he ran successfully for New Castle County Council in November of 1970, an office he held from January of 1971 until he went to the Senate in January of 1973.
I’ve had to put up with him since that run, as I met him the first time as he was campaigning in the Fall of 1970.
