There are no “God Given Rights” explicitly laid out in the Bible. The concept of a human rights began in 1215 under the Magna Carta. Rights come from the Government, but God issues principals and values. Not rights.
Rights: Rights are inherent to individuals by virtue of their humanity. They are typically regarded as fundamental, universal, and inalienable. Rights establish what individuals are morally or legally allowed or entitled to do, have, or be. They are often considered as protections against infringement or unjust treatment. Rights are generally based on principles of justice, equality, and human dignity.
However, the Bible teachings that emphasize the inherent value and dignity of every human being. It affirms the importance of justice, equality, and the fair treatment of individuals.
Here is an incomplete list of “Rights” or values and morals found in the Bible and the verse associated with each concept:
1. Human Dignity: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.” (Genesis 1:27)
2. Equality: “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Galatians 3:28)
3. Freedom: “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.” (Galatians 5:1)
4. Justice: “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8)
5. Liberty: “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” (2 Corinthians 3:17)
6. Autonomy: “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.” (1 Corinthians 6:12)
7. Self-defense: “If a thief is caught breaking in at night and is struck a fatal blow, the defender is not guilty of bloodshed.” (Exodus 22:2)
8. Freedom of Speech: “Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” (Colossians 4:6)
9. Due Process: “Do not pervert justice; do not show partiality to the poor or favoritism to the great, but judge your neighbor fairly.” (Leviticus 19:15)
10. Privacy: “But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen.” (Matthew 6:6)
11. Non-discrimination: “For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.” (Romans 10:12)
12. Access to Education: “Get wisdom, get understanding; do not forget my words or turn away from them.” (Proverbs 4:5)
13. Healthcare: “Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” (Matthew 10:8)
14. Voting Rights: “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.” (Romans 13:1)
