Biden is attacking America and American energy at every point. Is it ideology or greed?
Just when you think it can’t get worse in Bidenland, it does.
Back in high school I remember speaking with an English teacher about history, the attack on Pearl Harbor. He made the point that history was not black and white, and in particular on the Pearl Harbor attack. “Thiac, look at why the Japanese did it. We embargoed them on oil and scrap metal, both of which they needed for their economy.“ He was right. Now he wasn’t justifying what the Japanese did, but it was a hostile move on our part to hamper Japanese aggression in the Far East. Embargoing energy. Where have we heard that one recently?
One of the first acts of Joe Biden upon coming into office was to declare war on American energy. He shut down Keystone XL, he stopped new leases and permits on all federally owned lands and waters, and ordered the Department of the Interior to review current leases with the intent to slow or stop them. The Democrats destroyed one of the greatest national accomplishments since the moon landing. For the first time in almost 70 years, America was energy independent and became a net exporter of oil. Not under Joe’s watch would that be tolerated.
So what does he do? After hamstring American energy, he begs adversaries like Venezuela and Saudi Arabia to drill more. Biden was not concerned that raising the cost of crude oil gave our adversaries a massive cash infusion (Russia, Iran). To prevent a disaster in the 2022 elections, he raided the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to lower cost slightly. Now that the midterms are over, Biden has reopened his war on American energy with a vengeance. All for a “clean” energy future relying on electricity and batteries.
I remember my first article on “rare earth minerals” in STRATFOR in the late 2000s. They explained how “clean energy,” specifically electric vehicles batteries needed lithium. Afghanistan has a treasure trove of rare earth minerals but getting to them is extremely difficult. Recently the Department of Defense had called Afghanistan the “Saudi Arabia of lithium.” The issue is the logistics. Afghanistan is a completely land locked nation with limited roads, fewer improved roads, scarce airfields, an inadequate rail system, and a lack of other logistics to support exploration.
Fast forward to 2021, and in one of the greatest disasters of American foreign policy history. The Biden administration withdrawal from Afghanistan made 1975 in Saigon look organized and successful. Not only did we turn over billions in equipment, but we also abandoned Afghani’s who worked with us over two decades. Henry Kissinger said it well in 1975, and Biden just made the point again: “To be an enemy of America can be dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal.”
Thanks Joe.
For an imbecile who wants to eliminate vehicles that actually run, it looks like he has other goals. Again, Biden has done what he could to harm American energy for decades. He was one of a handful of senators to vote against the Trans Alaskan Pipeline in 1973, potentially strengthening OPEC. Now thanks to his actions in Afghanistan, our current rising threat is getting more access to critical minerals. The Biden administration handed them to Beijing.
Rich lode of EV metals could boost Taliban and its new Chinese partners.
The Pentagon dubbed Afghanistan ‘the Saudi Arabia of lithium.’ Now, it is American rivals that are angling to exploit those coveted reserves.
CHAPA DARA, Afghanistan — Sayed Wali Sajid spent years fighting American soldiers in the barren hills and fertile fields of the Pech River Valley, one of the deadliest theaters of the 20-year insurgency. But nothing confounded the Taliban commander, he said, like the new wave of foreigners who began showing up, one after another, in late 2021…
Late 2021. I’m having trouble remembering, what happened before “late 2021” in Afghanistan?
“…The Chinese were unbelievable,” Sajid said, chuckling at the memory. “At first, they didn’t tell us what they wanted. But then I saw the excitement in their eyes and their eagerness, and that’s when I understood the word ‘lithium.’”
A decade earlier, the U.S. Defense Department, guided by the surveys of American government geologists, concluded that the vast wealth of lithium and other minerals buried in Afghanistan might be worth $1 trillion, more than enough to prop up the country’s fragile government. In a 2010 memo, the Pentagon’s Task Force for Business and Stability Operations, which examined Afghanistan’s development potential, dubbed the country the “Saudi Arabia of lithium.” A year later, the U.S. Geological Survey published a map showing the location of major deposits and highlighted the magnitude of the underground wealth, saying Afghanistan “could be considered as the world’s recognized future principal source of lithium.”
But now, in a great twist of modern Afghan history, it is the Taliban — which overthrew the U.S.-backed government two years ago — that is finally looking to exploit those vast lithium reserves…
…In interviews, Taliban officials, Chinese entrepreneurs and their Afghan intermediaries described a frenzy reminiscent of a 19th-century gold rush. Globe-trotting Chinese traders packed into Kabul’s hotels, racing to source lithium in the hinterlands. Chinese executives filed into meetings with Taliban leaders, angling for exploration rights. In January, Taliban officials arrested a Chinese businessman for allegedly smuggling 1,000 tons of lithium ore from Konar province to China via Pakistan…
Not to be worried, Joe is not only attacking our access to minerals needed from overseas sources. He’s cutting off our own. In March 2023, he declared over half a million acres in the west off limits to mining, including a new federal park with lithium on it.
With several nations trying to pull back from depending on China (e.g., Germany), our current administration seems determined to have us completely reliant on Beijing (and OPEC). Oh, let’s not forget his attacking natural gas. Not only our gas stoves but natural gas production. As National Review well put it, Biden is attacking anything that works.
From his wrong vote decades ago in the Senate on the Alaskan Pipeline to his current war on energy, everything Biden is doing is oriented to weakening this nation. Is it the puppet master pulling his strings (Obama, I have no doubt, is still directing this Oval Office), or is he using this to enrich himself and his family with?
Crazed you think? Prior to 2016 I would not have thought a sitting vice-president would openly brag about extorting the then president of the Ukraine about an investigation of a company he and his family were benefitting from. Or his son Hunter having connections with Chinese firms, with 10% for “The Big Guy’.” People call Richard Nixon a crook, but he has nothing on the current occupant of the Oval Office.
All together now, Thanks Joe. ☹
