United States-A New Reign of Terror?

The fourteenth of July marked the 234th anniversary of the storming of the Bastille, the infamous political prison in Paris, France, which is widely considered the beginning of the French Revolution. The failures of the initial phase of the French Revolution to tamp down the hatreds between economic and social classes, as well as the military invasions by nearby monarchies eager to crush the uprising lest it spread to their territories, with a lack of democratic traditions, led to French political tyranny.

This “Reign of Terror” by a directorate of French terrorists, who ruled the nation through fear and fiat, committed unspeakable crimes against its own citizenry, killing as many as 400,000 people. Wielding the sword of proto-progressivism were groups of street thugs known as sans culottes, who committed atrocities, while their political allies refused to prosecute them. Another 200,000 were slaughtered when the conservative Vendee erupted in reaction to progressive government in Paris.

Napoleon emerged as eventual Emperor, and France would not declare a republic again until the mid-nineteenth century. In addition to social conservative victims, the royals, the aristocracy, and many liberals themselves, the property of the Catholic and other churches were ransacked across the country and clergy guillotined. This included cloistered nuns for refusing to abandon their faith. The Marquis d’ Lafayette, American war hero, practically adopted son of George Washington, and early leader of the French Revolutionary army and creator of the Tri-Color, barely escaped death.

His mother-in-law was guillotined. Lafayette’s wife only escaped beheading with the adamant pleas of the nascent American government. Blood ran in the streets. Progressive ideals similar to, and in some cases identical with the ideology of the American Left today, including a hatred of the Judeo-Christian God and His institutions; an inversion of the Natural Law for manmade law; the replacement of justice with the use of intimidation and force against perceived political enemies; and the diffusion of propaganda through the press to persuade the people, animated the Terror. Is America not now experiencing the early stages of a new Reign of Terror?

Like the French regime imprisoning political opponents, former President Donald Trump announced that the progressive American government will arrest him in connection with the January 6th 2021 riot. This, in addition to other charges at the local, state, and federal levels (and more to come) will likely witness one political party imprison an American President and the leader of its opposition party for the first time since enacting the Constitution, like the Bastille, also in 1789. Based on the alleged charges against Trump, many American political leaders may have been imprisoned, including Andrew Jackson (refusal to accept election results), Woodrow Wilson (suspension of civil liberties), Franklin Roosevelt (suspension of civil liberties for Japanese Americans), Lyndon Johnson (election fraud), Richard Nixon (election fraud), Ted Kennedy (manslaughter and giving secrets to the Soviets), Ronald Reagan (extra-legal support to foreign entities), and both William and Hillary Clinton (sexual assault and mismanagement of secret documents).

Yet a sense of justice and fair play always saw the United States rise above the base imprisonment of political opposition that births so many tyrannies worldwide. A sense of fair-play and justice did not exactly emanate from the 2020 Presidential election that triggered the January 6th riots, as questionable State-court rulings made legal suspect vote gathering and counting, eroding trust in government legitimacy, and spreading the feeling amongst many conservatives that a revolution is fully underway.

Borrowing a page out of the Terror’s repression of Catholic and other conservative Christian entities, the Biden Administration has sued, arrested, and intimidated pro-life religious laity, clergy, and institutions, including adoption agencies, churches, hospitals, schools, and philanthropic organizations. When it has not used the FBI to raid pro-life Catholic citizen’s homes in the middle of the night to terrify women and children with shows of force suitable to the war in Ukraine, it has prevaricated in investigations of property crimes and violent threats against pro-life agencies committed by modern-day sans culottes. Progressive prosecutors in blue-run cities also sanction terrorism by mirroring the federal’s attack on religious organizations and laity with whom they not only disagree, but seek to destroy. These actions are the logical conclusion of former President Barrack Obama’s initial attacks against religious, when his administration targeted nuns over birth control and abortifacients, attempting to force them to renounce their faith similar to 1790s-France.

Obama himself was an apotheosis of the Left’s new-man (many American elites fawned for him as some French elite did for Napoleon) the very embodiment of the Left’s attempt to subvert the Natural Law for manmade diversity, inclusion, and equity agendas. Squandering the historic chance to heal racial divisions dating back to the arrival of the first slaves to English America in 1619 in the great traditions of Frederick Douglas and Martin Luther King Jr., Harvard-educated Obama chose instead to identify himself with street thugs, and tacitly approve the neo-sans culotte’s violent street movements against law and order. His administration persecuted local and state law enforcement with made-up legal diktats emanating from DC. While one in five Black Americans still live below the poverty line, Obama seemingly without a sense of irony and who made many millions peddling the Left’s revolutionary pogrom, now inhabits a plantation in completely white Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

Violence engulfed the American summer of 2020, as the neo-sans culottes took to the streets to protest largely imagined police violence against minorities, especially in cities. Official statistics from the Left-dominated FBI demonstrate that hardly any black people are killed by white police, and that black on white crime is more lethal than white on black crime. Taking advantage of rage against authority common to the Left’s militant desire to invert the natural order, as well as the COVID-crisis and friendly Leftist prosecutors giving them aid, Black Lives Matter and Antifa revolutionary soldiers committed atrocities totaling up to 50 people killed, many hundreds wounded, and billions of dollars-worth of property damage. Blood ran in the streets.

While then President Trump was besieged in the White House, media across the country portrayed the continuing revolution as peaceful protests, masking the extent of the violence and encouraging peaceful Americans to support the new terror. BLM with the consent of the local DC leftist authorities, painted its new-Tri-Color banner on the blocks adjacent to the White House and Capital buildings. Police were assassinated and assaulted at staggering rates across the nation, as Leftist politicians tacitly green-lighted terrorists to attack law enforcement.

Further inflaming the country’s tensions, the newly minted Biden Administration failed to address the burgeoning violence still plaguing largely blue cities, and double-down on anti-law enforcement rhetoric and policies. In a show of revolutionary force, today New York City announced reparations for the very sans culottes, responsible for the violence. Biden continued what is widely considered in conservative circles as an over-reaction to the Covid virus, sanctioning the suspension of some civil liberties, like the rights to assemble, worship, and remain privately employed when resisting government health sanctions.

This led to the destruction of many conservative small-owned businesses that had survived the summer terror of 2020. The Biden administration in addition to prosecuting its chief political rival, has furthered the Left’s revolutionary agenda, despite the promises (like Obama) of governing for all Americans. Instead, his regime has also governed by fear and fiat, undermining the legitimacy of the right-leaning Supreme Court, promising the nuking of the filibuster and the expansion of the Union with more Leftist States, and purging the federal government of remaining conservatives.

The mainstream media has predictably stood by these atrocities, encouraging actively Americans to join in the new levee en masse for the gay and transgender aspects of the revolution. Debasing the Judeo-Christian ethic, the Natural Law, justice, and the free press, and culminating the first stages of the new Reign of Terror, the deviant Transgender banner flew over the White House during so-called pride-month; this, in the place of honor reserved for the National Colors that usually serves to unite all Americans. After all, revolutions are meant to divide and conquer, not unify, and while the United States has not suffered the tens of thousands of casualties of the French Revolution, the same toxic stew of ideology exists to poison Americans into growing the new Reign of Terror into something more akin to the original. Lafayette, as commander of the French National Guard, certainly did not anticipate that the violence in Paris would metastasize into crueler and uglier. Let us hope that the American National Colors are restored to prominence to unite Americans again with familiar non-progressive values, while the Left’s violent temper tantrum from 2009 to the present-day fades into bad memories—the same National Colors that still fly over Lafayette’s tomb in Paris, and reveal the true ideals of America

  1. Creepy, almost like you read my mind… I’ve been comparing the Radical Left to the Jacobins for years, and you’ve lined it up and drawn the parallels far better than I.
