Take Your Bible to School Day: Celebrating Religious Freedom in America

October 5th 2023: “Take Your Bible to School Day: Celebrating Religious Freedom in America”

In the land of the free and the home of the brave, America stands as a beacon of liberty and religious freedom. Our nation’s founders enshrined the right to practice one’s religion without government interference in the First Amendment to the Constitution. It is a fundamental freedom that we should cherish, celebrate, and, most importantly, exercise.

On October 5th, countless students across the United States will participate in “Take Your Bible to School Day.” This event is a powerful reminder of the religious freedoms we enjoy, freedoms that millions in other parts of the world can only dream of.

As students proudly carry their Bibles to school, they are not merely showcasing a cherished book; they are exercising their constitutional right to the free exercise of religion. In a country where this right is protected, it’s easy to take it for granted. However, it’s essential to recognize that in many corners of the globe, this simple act would be met with hostility, oppression, or even violence.

Let’s take a moment to reflect on some countries where the Bible is restricted, and taking it to school is not an option:

**1. North Korea:** In North Korea, the government’s oppressive regime tightly controls religious expression. The mere possession of a Bible is illegal, and students certainly wouldn’t have the opportunity to bring one to school without severe consequences.

**2. Saudi Arabia:** While Saudi Arabia has recently taken steps towards greater tolerance, non-Islamic religious materials, including Bibles, are restricted. In Saudi schools, the Bible would be a forbidden item.

**3. China:** China’s government has periodically cracked down on religious activities, including the distribution of Bibles. Students bringing Bibles to school would face obstacles and potential repercussions.

**4. Iran:** In Iran, owning a Bible can be considered a subversive act, especially for converts from Islam. Schoolchildren would not have the freedom to take a Bible to their classes.

**5. Eritrea:** In Eritrea, religious activities and materials are tightly controlled by the government. Bringing a Bible to school would be a dangerous proposition for students.

**6. Vietnam:** Vietnam has had a history of imposing restrictions on religious materials. Students could face difficulties if they tried to bring a Bible to school.

These examples serve as a stark reminder of the blessings we have in America. Our nation was founded on principles of religious freedom and the right to freely practice our faith, or not practice any faith at all. “Take Your Bible to School Day” is not just an event; it’s a celebration of these freedoms.

However, as history has shown, freedom is not guaranteed. It must be cherished and protected. If we do not exercise our rights, we risk losing them. “Take Your Bible to School Day” is an opportunity for students to stand up for their faith and for religious freedom, not just in the United States but as a beacon of hope for those who do not enjoy such privileges elsewhere.

So, let us celebrate this day, not just by taking a Bible to school, but by acknowledging and appreciating the precious freedoms we have. Let us remember those in restrictive countries who can only dream of such a day, and let us resolve to protect and defend our rights to practice our faith, today and for generations to come.

  1. Genesis 1:27: So God created mankind in his own image,
    in the image of God he created them;
    male and female he created them.

    Heaven forfend! Taking a book, any book, to school, which states that God created human beings “male and female”? What about the other 27 genders?

    Off to re-education camp with you!
