Thomas E. Ricks’ book, “Churchill and Orwell”, is a fascinating exposition of how two men from opposite political and social positions found common cause in World War II against the great enemies of Western Civilization. Almost 100 years later, Western Civilization faces external and internal existential threats. It’s time for a governing majority across Western Civilization, especially in the U.S.A., to find common cause in common sense. Time to buddy up like Orwell and Churchill.
The Eric Blair, who we know as George Orwell, learned to hate Totalitarianism when he fought in Spain as a Socialist. Winston Churchill, the greatest secular man of the 20th Century, hated Totalitarianism from his English guts and his encyclopedic knowledge of history. They found common cause in fighting the National Socialist and Fascist branches of Human Secular Totalitarianism in World War II. After the war they both warned the West about the Communist branch of Human Secular Totalitarianism.
Rick’s book contrasts their lives from childhood to the convergence of their implacable hatred of totalitarianism. It’s fascinating to see such an odd couple come from such a wide divergence to the same place with the same keen insights and passion.
Almost 100 years later, Human Secular Totalitarianism is still alive. Actually, it has the upper hand throughout Western Civilization. In the U.S., its elites rule five of seven institutions that shape our society to define our culture and American Civilization. But, they haven’t won the Great U.S. Culture War yet.
A modest majority of Americans combines the Conservatives, who instinctively would be with Churchill, and the apolitical, with the practical, common sense citizens who would support a more traditional liberal and old-school socialist Orwell. That majority can win the Presidency and Congress in 2024 if they overcome vote harvesting and cheating in five swing states.
The majority is opposed by a powerful, large minority coalition of wealthy elites, identity politics peasants, and the dependent under-class who used to be “Liberal.” Most Liberals became Cultural Marxists. Now, they are another dangerous branch of Human Secular Totalitarianism – just like the Nazis, Fascists, and Communists before.
These Human Secularist Totalitarians claim to be champions of freedom, tolerance, and democracy while they work to reset Western Civilization into a fundamentally transformed, Post-Christian society. They’ve imported millions of Muslims to North America and Europe for an imaginary “multi-culturalism” and the inevitable inclusion of Islamist Totalitarianism.
The Islamist Totalitarians are the 20% of Muslims who believe in the Koran as written and wage jihad against Western Civilization. They’re the barbarians who committed the October 7th atrocities in Israel. These Totalitarians are the backward savages found in Hamas, Hezbollah, and many other Muslim terrorist groups.
Churchill and Orwell would recognize both Human Secularists and Islamists as the Totalitarians they are. A governing majority of Americans needs to do the same. Voters in Canada and Europe need to do likewise before it’s too late.
Self-outing Hamas as the barbarians and savages they are, creates a clear choice for Western Civilization. Western Civ or barbaric Islamist Totalitarianism. It creates an opportunity for Muslims in the civilized world to choose to be Western or Islamist. The crowds in the demonstrations have made their choice public. Everyone who calls for Israel to stop its war to destroy Hamas, is signing a loyalty pledge against Western Civilization.
The Götterdämmerung of Western Civilization is coming if the Human Secularist Totalitarians aren’t put out of power and the Islamist Totalitarians aren’t deported, imprisoned for life, or kept out.
